Hello, had this cpu/mobo combo for 3 odd years now but never touched it but its slow in BC2 so wanna make it faster.

Specs:
E2180 2GHZ
Gigabyte P35-DSL
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2

I've set the voltage to auto in bios, changed some acceleration settings to standard and upped it to 2.3 so far so good.

Anything else ive gotta be aware of as I slowly increase the speeds? Shall I leave the ram where settings where they are?

That should be able to go a lot further yet. I had one to 3.6Ghz in a Gigabyte P31-DS3L. Would have gone further too if i had something other than the stock cooler. Can't remember the setting though as it was a long time ago. Do not use auto voltage. Find the maximum fsb it will clock to on stock voltage and then increase the voltage a notch at a time as you increase the fsb. Remember as well that everytime you increase the fsb you increases the ram speed so you will need to keep checking that as well to keep the ram running within it's rated speed. Keep and eye on temps as you increase the voltage.

My E2140 does 2.4GHz at 1.1v, stock volts are 1.265, just goes to show how overkill auto can be.

See how high you can go on stock volts before it falls down, then start increasing voltage. Increase FSB and reduce the FSB:DRAM divider as necessary.

arghhh wish i didnt put it on manual voltage, now it wont let me overclock at all no matter what I do!! just gonna update bios now

managed to fix it, turned off psu for 5 minutes. now at 2.8 ghz. 10x 280. vcore 1.4. everything else auto, ram set to 3:3. done a 32mb pi calculation :) Temps were max 66, should be ok right?
