overclocking my new build

Guys ,

recently built my new rig and im trying to overclock it using Smart 6 but it dont seem to work , any other programs available to use as i am not confident enough going into the bios and doing it.

I5 2500 @3.3ghz
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 Motherboard
16gb Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit RAM
x2 Radeon 7970
850W XFX PSU
Corsair H100 Cooler

cant overclock the 2500 needs to be the K version
how long have you had it and is it from OCUK cos you should be able to return under DSR

well im not sure what program you can use tbh i go into bios could try the asrock 1 again dunno if it will work with gigabyte im guessing no,

I take it adjusting the multipler to 4.0ghz does not overclock it to 4.0?

try 40 for 4.0 in multipler 42 for 4.2 etc should be able to get 45 4.5 b4 you need to change volts etc

i did adjust it to 4.2 , saved and exit , when windows booted back up it said it was back to normal at 3.3ghz???

it will say 3.3 until you put some load on the cpu then will shoot up but try this might help

i used the first link , followed all the steps but cpuid says its o/c to 3.6 when i set it to 4.5... lol im such a noob

but anyway CPU-Z etc will show a downclock speed and when you load/stress the CPU it will jump up in speed 2 your overclock
some settings like intel speed step and the C states cause this you can turn them off

Found a utility called touch bios , set it to 4.5 and it's all good just stress testing it now on maximum , fingers crossed..... Thanks for your help

got mine to 5.0 with 1.46 vcore

i seem to be stable at 4.2 (42) 16 multiplier and a v core of 0.996 , the burn test on maximum was successful , my temps are 21 idle and 65 full load , can i push it further?

yep keep going 4.6 should be easy to get max temps might hit low 70's but thats fine.

Ok will try it at 4.6 what should i set the v core too? Also i have load level options in my bios not sure what that really does tho
