Overclocking my Q6600 problems?

I am extremely new to overclocking, read a few of the threads and googled how to overclock the Q6600 so I got a brief idea of how to do it. I currently got it clocked @ 2.969 GHz, and its stable, I have an Asus 5PE Ai Lifestyle mobo and when ever I try to get the FSB Frequency to 335 or higher I get a blue screen when it starts up. I have got some pictures of what I am getting, and a pic of what I have done to overclock it, if you would like me to provide more pics ask and I will do my best.

Here are the pics;

Here is a pic of it on CPU-Z

Am I right in thinking all of your voltages are left on auto?

If so, then there's your problem right there. If you are going to manually overclock, then you need to manually set the voltages.

Try the following settings for 3.2ghz...

CPU RATIO - 8x
FSB - 400
CPU Vcore - 1.35 (might need a little more, up to 1.45 or so is fine)
CPU PLL - 1.5 (might need a little more, up to 1.6 or so should be fine)
Northbridge - 1.3 (might need a little more, up to 1.6 or so should be fine)
FSB Termination - 1.25

Keep an eye on your temps - use Realtemp or CoreTemp, and run Prime95 to test the overclock is stable.

EDIT - the one other thing you might need to do is manually set the FSB strap, so that your memory is not overclocked, but up to 400 FSB this is pretty much a non issue.

Tried it, didn't work =[. But I got it @ 3.26 now and it seems to be stable, gunna do that Prime test now! Temps are 30-34 @ idle is that ok?

Don't think I can even get it running @ 3GHz

Changed FSB to 340

Changed voltages

CPU Vcore - 1.46250 also tried 1.35
CPU PLL - 1.70 also tried 1.5
Northbridge - 1.55 also tried 1.3
FSB Terimination - 1.40 also tried 1.25

Any ideas, I googled it etc.

Edit: Prime95

Full system spec please?

I need....

Exact model of motherboard
Amount and type of RAM - 2gb? 4gb? 2 sticks? 4 sticks?
Make and wattage of PSU
Graphics card
Hard disk

etc etc

Once I have this I will try to help again.

Okay lets see, this time try the following...

CPU RATIO - 9x
FSB - 333
CPU Vcore - 1.35
CPU PLL - 1.55
Northbridge - 1.3
FSB Termination - 1.25

RAM voltage - set this to 1.9 rather than auto

With any luck that will get you started with 3ghz.

EDIT - another thing, grab CPUID Hardware Monitor (free) and fire it up before Priming. Watch all the temps (Northbridge can get v hot) and also watch the CPU vcore during load. Does it drop much from your bios setting? (eg BIOS set to 1.35, HM shows 1.30 means its dropping 0.05v during load)

Oh by the way, load up CoreTemp and let me know what your temps are like, and also what VID your processor is please.

Sure np, thanks mate I'll give it a shot! what is VID?

Its the default Vcore set by Intel. This varies from CPU to CPU as a result of their testing procedures. Lower is normally better.

I have seen values from 1.225 - 1.35 mentioned. My own is 1.3, so its about middle of the road.

Usually if the VID is higher, the CPU will require more voltage to get to a particular clockspeed over one with a lower VID.

EDIT - for what its worth, if my settings above don't work initially, raise the vcore around 0.05 and try again, change NOTHING else at this stage.

Right I see, how do I find out what the VID is? Also I just tried what you said 333 FSB Freq didn't work, I tried 332 and it has worked so far, about to do a Prime95 test and the temps @ idle are 33-34 Celsius. Right I tried Prime95 twice, both times it restarted PC and came up with a blue screen, I recorded it if you want to see, if not then that's alright.

Edit: Just saw your edit will give it a shot, also when I tried it before a blue screen came up saying "An attempt had tried to execute non executable memory" or something similar to that, not totally sure tried to get a pic but by the time the camera turned on it was gone =[.

Trying 1.4 now. My VID is 1.3250 apparently

EDIT: PC has not shut down yet, which is an excellent start :P, just waiting now temps @ 100% load are 46-49, is that alright?

EDIT2: Worker #2 has stopped working on Prime and says what it said in my previous picture

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4"
"Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file."
"Torture Test ran 0 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings."
"Worker stopped."

Okay, so your VID is a little on the high side, but I have seen plenty of those reach 3.4 - 3.6ghz, will just need to tweak it a little :)

Make sure you open HW Monitor and let me know if the Vcore drops during load, this is important to know for your overclock.

EDIT - temps up to 65-70c are fine, no worries. Mine hits 69c during Prime, although I am on air.
