here's the deal, i'm new to the whole overclocking business, i know how to do it but i don't know what to use to test it.

i'm currently googling for this 'orthos' thing, is there anything else i need?

it's the usual setup of
C2D E6300,
Acf7
Gb DS3

depends what mobo u realy have , but in BIOS u should be able to set it to 3 different modes! But i doubt u wanna use performance mode couse i got same cooler and thats the only reason why i am still @ 2.7 Ghz OC only ,i run it at optimal mode which is 800rpm, max on performance is 2700 and it is way to noisey for me ,the ather thing is dunno why but i cant make my speedFan to work out with all speeds!Just dont wanna work :/

i tried speedfan and it crashed my system a few times, i've got the Gigabyte DS3, i can't seem to find a 'cpu quiet fan' option to turn off, it's annoying cos this cooler just stops dead sometimes.

i searched these forums and found a large post, it suggested changing the fan control method to 'legacy' and another fan control option to 'pwm', however, my idle temps are now at 57c, which is higher than before, i'm getting like 800RPM max outta this cooler now.

that's done the trick, AK-450 silver based dissepation gunk has brought her down to 33c idle (it's an e6300 currently overclocked to 2.1Ghz) so i'll go as far as 45 idle then stop overclocking her.
