Overclocking new CPU, how long to leave paste curing?

No curing time needed for MX-3. I wouldn't spread it out with a credit card - that usually gives worse results in my experience. You could try a line, following the instrcutions for AS5, but I didn't notice a difference compared to a resonable sized blob in the middle of the CPU.

Credit card spread worked for me. 4.2ghz middle last hot summer with a true and 1 apache fan got me 82c on prime not to be sniffed at. :D
most people dont want to spread mx3 because it like poo on a blanket :)

Get a thin plastic bag/freezer bag you know the ones i mean. (Not an Asda bag)!
Put your finger in the bag and get the bag smooth over your finger.
But about 2 blobs of paste about the size of a grain of rice on the CPU and spread it round with your finger.

PIC (This is only t oshow you as you can see he is putting it on a block.)

As for over clocking leave it for about the time it takes you to put the side on and site down :)

I've tried the single line across the die, two lines, pea-sized drop, credit card spread and the freezer bag spread method on different platforms and with different coolers. I switched numerous times based on what people (who I thought were well-informed) told me.

I honestly couldn't say which was best, but none of these methods had results far below what I expected. Have to say I was surprised at the improvement moving from Scythe Zipang with double-line method to Megahalems with freezer bag method. Not enough to draw any firm conclusion, though. And different experts/lay people/blokes on forums support different methods. Toss a coin, tbh. Results, for me, are inconclusive ;)

Not this, because you will never have an even layer- we are talking the thinnest layer you can possiblt get ideally, and spreading will never get that. Small as reasonably possible blob and use pressure to do the spreading for you.

This is a good watch to give you an idea how is best...

Lots of pressure.
Right amount.
Blob in centre or line if you must.

I usually apply a small amount into the center, just a little blob and let the weight and pressure from the heatsink to spread it for me.

el Kuarlos beat me to it on the youtube clip. All these fantastical methods of applying the paste and a simple dot pretty much beast all of them.
