Hi Folks,

I just recieved my new opteron 170 with an amazing stepping to replace my opteron 146 Cacje which served me well running at 2720 at only 1.425v.

My questions is:

do I need to install any drivers like the dual core optimizer? I looks I should
what about the driver for windows XP from july 06? do i have to install this one too?

Another think: how do i run to prime95 at the same time?

I notice the cpu run hotter than my single core reaching up to 55C for the cores  (my opty 146 used to top at 48C)

Thanks in advance.

BTW my mobo is an AsRock dual sata and I have 2GB supertalent capable of 272Mhz

Thanks, I downloaded orthos.

what about the software? anybody?

It looks very promising: 10x270 at 1.375v ;)

but it gets too hot  so I wonder if i put too much paste (using artic silver ceramique)

55C is ok if that's Prime full load.

Jokester

Yes but now that I changed the fan to the amd original I am getting up to 58C prime full load at 2700 @ 1.4v

that is not normal, isn't it?

I think tomorrow I will change the fan again and try to put only a grain of artic silver (I believe I put a bit more before and maybe that is affecting the contact between cpu / heatsink)

Thanks, I know now is nothing wrong with my cpu.

I am keeping the stock fan as 2700 is enough for me because it is the max speed of my memory and anyway playing the temp is below 50C. I will upgrade when playing temps are over 56c so waiting for games to fully use both cores ;)

I will test with quake 4 to see how high the temp goes.

BTW surfing temp is about 31C

Definitely install the AMD dual core optimizer if your a games player.
As it will solve issues with a load of games behaving erratically.

Thank you. I already done it and improves the core usage a bit but quake 4 with the patch for dual core still showing only about 60% usage like the rest of the games (expected about 80% at least)
