Hey all, as the title suggests, trying to get a handle on this whole overclocking thing. Read the guides (and a couple more) and everything seems fairly simple EXCEPT for the frikkin memory divider. This is really doing my head in and I want to get a handle on it before I start anything.

So Ive got a Opteron 170 for testing which I can abuse willy nilly whilst I learn how to do this. The chip is *meant* to be a good overclocker but I havent been able to find a reference to the stepping so who the hell knows. Matched it up with some Geil Value Ram DDR2 400, an old Asrock 939 dual sata and the test system is ready.

But memory divider. argh. So as much as I can figure out, say I clocked the Opteron to 230. So to work out the divider its

CPU Clock / (CPU Multiplier/Memory Divider)

So that would be

2300 / (10 / (1:1))

2300 / (10 / 1)

230 = 7:6 divider.

That right or am I totally on the wrong track? Any assistance appreciated.
