Overclocking not working :(

Hi, I'm trying to overclock my CPU (Intel E4500 - 2.2ghz)
Yesterday I managed to change the frequency from 200 to 250. I tried to push it a little further, so went to 270.
When exiting the bios and starting to load up windows I got an error "Overcloking failed, Press F1 to enter settings or F2 to load defults".
I went back in to the bios and changed everything back to default settings and tried again, but still the same.
Now I can only get it to 215, if i try to go any more than that it doesnt even start, just sits in a continuous loop with the fans starting up for a few seconds then turning off again. To stop this I have to disconnect the main power for a few seconds. Then when I reconnect the power and start up it displays the overclocking failed message again.
Please help, this is so frustrating.

Specs are:
Asus P5B-VM motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2ghz processor
4 x 1gb OCZ PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM.

Hopefully these will help

From the screenshots, it looks like your RAM is holding you back, as it is set to auto. This means its speed will increase as well as the CPU and if it cant handle as much, it will cause the overall overclock to fail.

When overclocking the CPU, try and keep DRAM Frequency as close to its default as possible. This will enable you to push your CPU more.

I have tried changing the DRAM frequency to DDR2 - 800mhz, but that still doesn't work :(

Setting the RAM clock to 800mhz won't work, that is the same as AUTO.

The 800mhz RAM setting is base clock X2 400mhz.
Don't foghet DDR ratings are double the actual frequency of the RAM clock.

You are raising the base clock over 200mhz so the 800mhz setting is now too high,

If you don't have the actual ratios 2.0X 2.4X etc then select the 667mhz setting.

BTW Some boards wont go lower than 2x for the RAM clock, so you may not have a 667mhz setting.

OKay, so I set the DRAM to 667mhz and up'd the CPU frequency to 220, that worked!!!
I tried to up the CPU frequency more but that failed :( I cant even get the CPU frequency to 225.
I have tried to drop the DRAM down to 533mhz, but that didn't help either.

When it's failing, it turns off from exiting and saving in the BIOS, powers down, then powers up, fans start, HD spins up, then powers down again. Does this continually. :(

take the cpu voltage (vcore) off auto, and just raise it a few levels,
your default vcore is around 0.85v and the max is 1.5v
raise it to about 1.2v
dont forget you have to stress test the cpu for stability.
download Intel Burn Test and run it for 10 passes.
if it passes the test you are nearly there, if it fails you will have to raise the vcore another couple of levels.
Also download realtemp to keep an eye on temps. try to keep it below 80..C

and as you are using 4 x 1 sticks of ram, try raising the northbridge (NB) voltage a couple of levels
