Overclocking-optimal GPU/RAM ratios?

most of us when we o/c our gfx cards just increase gpu and memory to the maximum stable.
my gpu far exceeds my memory in terms of overclockling percentage over stock.
this has made me think is there an optimal ratio of gpu to memory?
when is the overclock of a gpu wasted because the memory can't provide bandwidth?
is there a calculation or approximation that can be used?
or is it irrelevant and any overclock is benneficial? 3dscores would support that.

Doesn't matter at all.

Because at times the GPU won't be quick enough, and others where the memory is, and then others where the rest of the system isn't quick enough.

Wack it up to max clocks and leave it :)

i like the "wack it up" principle. its a method i religiously stick to :D

since most gpu's far exceed memory in terms of overclocks i just wandered if the gpu overclock was wasted cycles.

the actual workings of gfx cards beyond laymans speak has always been a mystery to me
