Hi there,

I'm having problems trying to overclock my computer (spec is in my sig)

I manged to get the computer booted and running at 400 FBS & 9 multi, without any volt increases - ran it in for a day with no problems what so ever. Anyway i wanted to push it some more so i upped the FBS to 420/430/440/450 - but have had no luck booting it. It just won't post.
I've upped the voltage across the NB (1.63v), CPU(1.6v), ram(2.1v) - but it just wont boot regardless.

Anyway i restored it back to 380 FSB - but soon after returning to it, it wouldnt post - so booted up at stock speeds no problems. Left it on for alittle bit and tried to boot 380FSB again - this time it posted but BSOD on windows boot.

Can anyone help me out - i can't seems to get past this problem.

At the time when i ran at 380 FSB (stock) volts my temp on prime are: 56c CPU, 62c NB, SB 50c.

Its just cooled passively - i dont have any case fans (just waiting for my fans to arrive)
I cant fit the asus fan cooler on it because of my heatsink.
 
I really cant get my computer to any fast that stock. Its just unstable. I can't figure out why it is.

Can anyone help me out please
 
update computer can boot into windows completely fine at 415FSB but when i run orthos, i gets errors - can anyone push in the right direction to go into please.

Vcore: 1.28 (set to 1.30) - 41c idle vista 64 reading

Those NB temps are a bit high, apparantly anything over ~47c will cause issues on the maximus formula. I'd get suggest you fit a case fan to blow air over it somehow. I cut a hole in the side of my case and fitted a 120mm blowing over my graphics card and NB heatpipe. Now getting around 43c under load.
 
Hi, no no no, temps over 47c are fine, AnandTech said that in their test but I do not know why. It has been proven to be wrong by many of us, besides it is really difficult to keep them below that if you're on air, overclocking and loading your system. Having said that, 56c is high when idling.

Looking at your voltages I'd say your mem volts are too high and your nb volts are too low, I'd set to 1.47 to start with then jiggle them after the system is stable, sb should be around 1.07

Yeah, was anandtech I read that. I've not had any issues I can definitely pin down to the NB. I agree, increasing the NB voltage will likely help, but I still think air flow might be dodgy ;)
 
ok thanks guys for your input i'll go try it now and let you know how i get along.
I don't know why but i have a feeling that soon as my NB hits 70 vista crashes.
I'll be upping the NB to 1.47 / SB 1.07 like you've suggested and Dram to 2.2 flat.

If i change my FSB strap to 400, is it likely to make things more unstable?

Anyway i just noticed that my cpu is actually at 37c idle, and 45c load.
 
ok i tried doing what you suggested but no luck.
It seems that anything above 800 fsb on the ram makes it unstable.
 
2Gb sticks don't overclock very much at all above their rated speeds, even at high volts. You need to use a divider to improve your FSB or get some faster RAM. Also, 8Gb puts a lot of strain on the northbridge.

how would i go about setting up the divider setting on the motherboard? I always though i had been using it?
