Hello, I`am new to this overclocking and was wondering if i can get some tips and stats like the volts,FSB and other little stuff i got to turn on and off in the bios you would use to overclock a Q6600 on a P5N-D. I would like to get it to around 3.0ghz.

Running on: Artic Cooling 7 Pro (with standerd thermal paste)

Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95w"

Asus P5N-D 750i (with new BIOS)

OCZ 2gb (2x1gb) pc2-6400c4 Dual Channel..x2 kits so got 4gig

650w PSU

Antec Nine Hundred gaming case

I`am not all lost in the bios just need a point in the right direction :).

Thank you for your time.

Hi,1st the usual disclaimer 'if you break something ,it's not my fault,I didn't make you do it';)
Before you make any adjustments in the bios run cpuz and coretemp to find out the voltage your cores are recieving and the cpu's Vid according to Intel, then run prime 95 to see how much your core voltage drops under load (Vdroop).
In bios, disable speedstep under cpu settings and set your memory to unlinked and enter 800 ,set your core voltage to (Vid+Vdroop) and your fsb to 1333 (quad pumped). You may need a lttle more Vcore and NB voltage but see how things pan out.
If that seems long winded, sorry i've just finished a 12 hour night shift:(
Cheers Stannous.

Right got it to boot into windows after a little play  Would get BSOD if i kept the Vcore at 1.3, read a few more posts on this on ramped it up to 1.35 and booted right in to windows ;).

In CPU-Z where it says core speed it stays at 2001.3Mhz and when i put load on it shoots to 3003.0Mhz is the norm with my chip our have i got to turn something off?

Settings:

Memory and fsb set to unlinked memory set to 800Mhz

FSB 1333 x9 Multiplier

Vcore 1.35v
HT 1.3
NB 1.3
SB auto

My temps at idle: Core temp are Core 0=31, Core 1=27, Core 2=27, Core 3=30

Do these seem ok to you . All temps are from my pc just chilling in windows typing this up :). Now just got to figure out how to use Prime 95 to test my baby.

The core speed drop is just Speedstep doing it's thing, it lowers the multiplier when there's no load, saving energy. Some people disable it, I leave it on.

Idle temps look fine but it's the load temps you need to watch.

Tryed prime 95 bloody thing gave me BSOD, turned NB back to auto gave my little bit higher temps. prime runs fine but get hardwere error after a few mins on test 1, tryed agian BSOD. set it all back to how it was and temps got better.

Left it idleing in windows temps 32,31,30,30. Ran a few games seems ok temps rise to high 40s to 50. can it be that prime is playing up our i`am not useing it right?

Hi,looking reasonably good so far.Prime failing on 1 core suggests you want to increase Vcore a touch. As for your BSOD,i'd take your NB voltage to ~1.4 as you're running 4 gig of memory.See how you go:)

Whats the max volts on the Vcore, HT, NB and SB i can push them to before i start to fry it ?:p. Is thier also a app that will show all the temps of the HT, NB, SB aswell , i`ve tryed everest but the sensor part of it would not work for me.

Thanks for the help so far guys :D

this is my topic on overclocking my q6600 on the p5n-d. them voltages worked fine ran prime stable for 30 mins and temps where around 70 :S

got a new case and reapplied the paste so going to wait few days before i got back to 3gig and run prime to see what temps i got.

but last night after i got the case and put al my parts in i was getting around 62C on prime at 3gig

so hopefully after paste set in a bit my temps be around 60C again.

but also when you play games your cpu is rarely at 100 load so my temps while playing grid and left for dead for a night was 59C max.

but your in same boat as me really this mobo is meant to be one of the worse for overclocking so goin to invest in a new 1 later on.

good luck :D

also think max voltage for the cpu is 1.5V dont know about others prob around the same i would have thought though

Hi,used to have one of these, don't exceed 1.5v for NB/SB/HT voltages as the 750i runs hot and the board's cooling isn't the best.I ran them at 1.46/1.44 and 1.4 to get a Q6600 to 3.6 gig (is a nice chip thought).Don't think you'll find an app to monitor all temps as iirc the board isn't a reference design and the chipset is a cutdown version of the then flagship 780i.
Hope this helps

also if you have applied any thermal paste i just read the instructins on artics web site and they say the compound takes 200hours of heat up and cooling down to get to optimun working efficiency. and can see your temp drop 2-5C over this time :D

so over the next month my temp should drop :D

Well ran prime for 30mins no errors our BSOD.

Set my Vcore to 1.4v cpu-z comes up with 1.36v so i now get this Vdrop business  NB set to 1.4v

Temps when running Prime max out at

Core 0=61 Core1=60 Core2=59 Core3=59

What do you guys think, these temps ok?
