Well Ive finally got a Q6600 with the Gigabyte GA-EP45-Extreme board.

Now i just need help on overclocking it.

Never done this b4 so... where to start off???

Also im running Geil DDR2 PC 6400@800Mhz will this be alrite??:)

Once it stops posting into windows just drop the FSB a little bit, then you have your first part of the overclock done ;)

Also download prime95 or something simlar, once you get it posting into windows with the new clock you need to test its doing the calculations correctly else the system will be unstable.

Post once you got this far, and tell us what sort of clock speed your getting. Next we can work on tweaking the volts to get the FSB even higher.

Also check your memory ratio / multiplier, as you may need to lower this.
As you increase the FSB the memory speed will increase.

FSB to 419, 8x Multiplier, VCore to 1.385 and a DDR2 overvolt to +0.15 works well for me. PCI-E locked to 100Mhz and the memory multiplier to 2 (i think) so your DDR2 runs at 872 then it should run well at 3.35Ghz. You will need a decent cooler though.

why the 8 x multi ? would not 9 be better and drop the fsb speed down a little.
currently using a Gigabyte p35 ds4 and im hitting 3.8 ghz at 400 fsb wih volt settings set to auto

Does the overclock change when u have different components in your comp could you not just start at the FSB, Clock speed and voltage as an exact same processor in a different system.

well i tried it and it wouldnt go past post! ive got a ep45-extreme n crnt get it with 300fsb :(

I think its sumat do with my memory fsb or timings tbh

Help!!!!

Same questions here. Got the same Mb / CPU got it @3.4 but when I got into Prime it just shuts down after a while. Not quite right I expect?

BIOS F8
q6600 Stepping B, Revision GO
FSB = 378
1.35 volts
Core Temp says 23-25c (idle). How do I get the reading when stressed? 26-28 after running 3DMark06?
Memory = x 2.00 (can't remember if A,B,C or D - not at all sure what that means)
Haven't touched the timings
3DMark06 = 17602 for what it's worth

What steps to take?

Still @ 3.4 as per above, I ran OCCT and it crashed straightaway. However, when I looked at the pretty graphs it produces I saw the 1.35 volts dropped off immediately to 1.25-6? I presume I have a ***** PSU?

I upped the vcore to 1.4 and OCCT is running OK now. The vcore it is showing is 1.31. Is that another indication that my PSU is rubbish?

After 25 minutes the temperatures seem to hover around 50c (46 up to 53 fluctuating). Is that normal?

Is the vcore dropping off like that normal? Do I have a rubbish PSU, or do I have a CPU that needs more "juice"?

What is the safe limits for the vcore?

Thats normal, voltage drops a bit due to the route it has to travel through the motherboard, then it lowers a bit more when the CPU is under full stress, vdrop and vdroop.
