Hi guys. I have a q9550 which is meant to have a multiplier of 8.5X if i remember correctly. Only problem is its showing up in the BIOS AND in Everest as 8X. Also Everest shows the multiplier fluctuates from 8X to 6X. Is there a way of locking it to 8.5X???

Besides from setting the FSB and Voltages is there anything else i need to do? Is disabling spread spectrums needed?

Oh yeah and which Torture Test do i use on prime95 to test stability on an overclock? Small FFTs, Large FFTs or Blend??

get CPU-z and see what the multiplyer is on there, my bios shows only 8 but CPU-Z shows 8.5 and the caculations done by FSB x8.5 for my clock speed add up ok so just a display problem with bios. the change from 8x to 6x is intels speedstep which reduces clock speed and volts when the CPU is idle to save power, you can disable it in bios although it is fine to leave it on.

I would try the intel burn in test,it is supposed to stress a cpu and ram more than prime. I have seen posts where overclocks were prime stable but when it comes to the burn in test they would fail.

You'll have a setting in the bios to allow the .5 multiplier, it's not allows on by default, you have to turn it on yourself. Not sure what it is called but it's something that is either enabled or disabled. Just have a look around where the fsb and multi are.
