Hi, Just a couple a questions about overclocking.

I'm looking to buy a high end gaming PC and was wondering is it worth overclocking im abit confused about it.

Will it shorten the life of my Computer?

Can i get by on not overclocking but still have it?

If your overclocking is it constantly overclocked until you say shut it off?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Overclocking is perfectly safe, as long as you do some research first.
Very good guide for beginners here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17612922
Basically as long as it doesn't get too hot, or you give it too much voltage, then its safe.
it wont shorten the life of your pc, even OCUK (the shop for this site) sells pre-overclocked systems, but they do charge extra for this feature.
My old Q6600 has a stock speed of 2.4GHz, and if i had it at 3.6GHz, then that is a 50% increase, for £0 extra money ;)

if you overclock in the bios (the proper way) then it stays overclocked permantely, even if you turn it off and then on again ;)
