Overclocking questions

I have only recently found out about overclocking. Researching how to do it lead me to this forum. Reading the posts it looks there are some very knowledgeable people on here.


Before I start to overclock my PC I need to clear up a few things.


1) I have 8 GB of G Skill Ripjaw ram. Written on the ram is F3-12800CL9D DDR31600 PC3-12800 CL 9 9 9 24 1.5V. Am I right in saying my ram runs at 1600 MHz? If not what is my ram speed?


2) Based on question one is CPU-Z reporting my ram correctly?

3) Is my airflow the right way? I have a HAF X case.

Fan 1 is pulling air in. Fan 2 and case fan are blowing air out.


4) When you increase CPU manual voltage what is the increments you increase by? Let’s say my voltage is at 1.300 and I wanted to increase it to the next voltage upwards what would I change it to?

1) yes that's 1600MHz the "DDR31600" = DDR3 1660Mhz

2)That is reporting RAM at ~667Mhz x2 = 1333Mhz
So you'll need to change this if you want 1600Mhz.

3)Yes that is correct

4)The smallest you can!

What CPU is it? Some can be overclocked with no increase in voltage. You want to find a stable overclock that you are happy with, then gradually decrease the voltage as low as possible while remaining stable. Prime95 or Intel Burn Test (IMT) will massively stress you system to give you an idea if it's stable.

Thank you. I have an I700 2600k with an ASUS P8567 Pro.

How do I change my ram settings?. I have recently installed the very latest bios and I took the battery out for 30 mins afterwards to reset the bios. I am wondering why the motherboard is not picking up the correct ram speed?

When you say increase the voltage by the smallest amount you can what is the smallest amount? Say my voltage is on 1.300 is the smallest increase I can make 1.301. If not what is the smallest increase?
