Overclocking RAM Question.

I figured this question would be better suited in this section. :)

I have an E6750 and I plan on buying this cooler for it tomorrow Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler

I have a dated G31M-ES2L board but I'm certain I can squeeze atleast 3.00GHz out of it.

However I am a bit confused about wether my RAM will be ok or not.

The ram is 1066MHz but my mobo RAM slots are 800MHz. The RAM voltage at 1066MHz is 2.1 but at 800MHz it's 1.8 which is fine. (Mobo supports max RAM voltage 1.8)

So, my question is, is it likely I'll run into any problems if I do need to mess about with my RAM settings in the bios? I just planned on leaving it on Auto but I just thought I'd make sure first.

Would appreciate any replys as I was planning on buying tomorrow. :)

Many thanks

i am not familiar with your mobo but.
leave ram at stock speed, 800mhz for now,
overclock your cpu, to the highest speed you can get, and make sure its 100% stable.
then play about with the ram ratio divider.
this is tied into your cpu fsb.
your E6750 has a fsb of 333, so if your ram divider is at 1:1, than your ram is underclocked to 666mhz (333 x 2)
if you can get your cpu to 400fsb, then the ram will be at 800mhz (400 x 2)
as above once you get your cpu maxed out, then try different ram dividers.

i have a Q6600 at 3.4 ghz (425 x 8)
my ram is rated at 800mhz, (as its ddr2 is 400 x 2) and 1.8v
i bumped the ram voltage to 1.9v.
then i changed the ram divider from 1:1 to 5:6, so my ram was overclocked to 1020mhz (510 x 2)

as yours is already rated at 1066mhz, you should have no problems getting it higher than 800mhz.
but your mobo may not like that speed or extra voltage to get the rated speed.

can you get a better mobo?
i seen an Asus P5Q Pro mobo in the MM for £25, that will overclock like a beast. ;)
also there is a Prolimitech Megahalems CPU Cooler in the MM for £20, its better than the gelid imo.

edit. sorry there are no fans with it.

your ram is good, but its your mobo thats holding you back
