Right, Come across a need to squeeze a bit more juice from my 8800GT, (can't afford a new gfx yet and its not high on my proirity list tbh)

Now when I was o/c my 6800nu and 7900gt I used rivatuner/driver reg mod to tweak the speed and then use 3DMark?? to stress test, is this still the best way or is there a better way.

Does anyone have any indication of how far I can push my card?

I would use Furmark to so the initial testing, if that works fine try other games/3DMark

As for speed I don't know my 8800GTS-640MB went from 500Mhz to 650Mhz but I think a 8800GT is a different GPU

I'm not too sure about the way Nivida cards overclock but on it shouldnt be much different from ATI cards. Just raise the clock speeds untill you start getting errors.

Yes, I know how to do that and what to look for as I've done it on my previous gen cards - what I'm asking is what programmes to use as its been quite some time (2 yrs iirc) since I've done anything on gfx cards.

Do I use Rivatuner or is there another way that is better to change the clock speeds?

I still use Rivatuner to overclock my GTX280 (and to add custom fan profiles)

What I did was set to overclocked speed, run Furmark for a few minutes, if that was stable with no sparklies/triangles I would run some games and 3DMarks

msi afterburner is a pretty good overclocking tool and its based of rivatuner. you can save overclocks and apply them at startup and have custom fan profiles.

I usually use this and msi kombuster to test for stability.

Well I'm using rivatuner and Furmark, but when using RT changign the clocks (and pressing apply) don't seem to have any effect on the temp or the average fps. Quitting RT and going back in again resets the clocks - is this usual?

Sorry for dunce questions -
