Overclocking Ryzen 1600 - assistance needed

I currently have a ASRock AB350M Pro4 Motherboard version P3.00 and a AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor. The cooler I am using is a Be quiet! BK008 Pure Rock slim heatsink and fan.

Speccy notes that at idle the motherboard is running at 29 degrees celcius and the processor is at 30 degrees celcius.

Basically I have zero experience in overclocking but with some help I would like to achieve a minor overclock on my machine, would it be possible for someone to give me some advice on how I should go about this with a step by step process? Thank you.

I set Vcore to 1.325 and clockspeed to 3800 MHz, I just punched in these numbers under OC Tweaker section in BIOS/UEFI, my motherboard is a ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming-ITX/ac, so it should be similar

Start with lower clockspeed and 1.3v, increase clockspeed a bit (in 50 MHz increments), if it gets unstable, increase vcore a bit, but don't go beyond 1.4.

You should be able to get 3.8 GHz easily, with stock cooler it never goes beyond 50c at full load, on mine it doesn't at least.

I've only managed to reach 3.5ghz at 1.3v with temps reaching 63 degrees Celsius...and that was only running for 20mins
Is that 63° at load or idle? You have more headroom with temps and voltage anyway.

How is the rest of the build? Is it getting good airflow, are you sure the cooler is seated properly etc

Nothing wrong with the Pure Rock Slim but I would hardly have bothered swapping the stock cooler for it personally.

I've seen a few people struggling to get decent overclocks on R5s. Some are able to get 3.8 easy with others finding 3.6 the top end before it turns into a hot box.

I don't know if it is due to poor silicon in the binning process or if they are struggling for airflow.

I have an R7 1700 at 3.9GHz no problem but that's cooled by a Corsair H100i v2 and is in a well ventilated case. My friend has an R5 1600 and we can't break 3.6GHz without it incinerating itself. He is using stock cooler and Phanteks Eclipse case.

Thats 63 at full load using occt for 20-25 mins could possibly have crept up higher but I was impatient and wanted to use the pc. The airflow might be an issue as the pc is on the floor next to a wall and the case I don't think is great. I'm sure I read somewhere that it's recommended not to go above 1.365v? and to back off a bit if I start seeing temps over 65. I was actually recommended to buy the cooler I think mines similar to the one they said in this thread https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/upgrading-motherboard-and-cpu-quieter.18799419/

When I unboxed the stock cooler and the one I had bought I did think to myself that the stock cooler looked pretty decent in itself.

I've just booted up again I changed the v core to around 1.28v think it was something like 1.2875v and put the cpu at 3.7ghz. I've been running occt on large data set for 35mins and temps have been pretty stable at 45 degrees Celsius. Should I now try a different benchmark to test for crashes? And if okay should I next try 3.8ghz?

Personally I couldn't be bothered starting low and gradually working my way up.

I set mine to 3.8 and played with the voltages until it was stable. I actually have it a shade under 3.9 with the .25 increments you can set.

Once I thought I had it dialled in a set it to run Real Bench for a few hours to iron out any other kinks. You can run it for 24 hours if you really want to but I never do. I let it run for a couple hours and then if it's "stable" I will leave it like that.

There's no hard and fast way to prove your overclock is 100% stable. I set mine up the way I always do and have had it running like that since last November. The only time it crashes is in PUBG, I don't know if that's the game being borked or being "unstable".
