Hello

Just aquired a shiny new Samsung NC10 in blue. Have already installed a 320GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black HDD and 2GB Corsair RAM but want to overclock the Atom to about 2Ghz ish. Found loads info on O/Cing eee PCs and all the other netbooks but nothing on the little samsung....

Got setfsb but cant find the clock generator code for it either...

Has anyone got any ideas??? Please dont reply with "why are you overclocking a netbook or whats the point in overclocking the atom" as i know it wont give me much of an increase in performance etc but i just want to see what it can do :D

Thanks

Craig

Have checked in the bios and theres nothing. A friend has the advent 4211 (msi wind copy) and in his advanced options theres a overclocking section whereas in the nc10's advanced options theres turning hypherthreading and speedstep on and off ands thats about it :(

Only thing ive found so far is a program called setfsb but you need to know what the motherboard clock generator or pll file is. Found what the MSI wind, Advent's and eee pc ones are but again cant find anything on the samsung nc10.

The lastest MSI Bios adds overclocking into the Bios, that's why there is an option on your friends.

I haven't seen anyone who has overclocked the Samsung yet, but maybe they will also release a Bios that allows you to overclock as both the MSI and Eee can under warranty.

p.s. nice choice in HD.

Also I think setfsb was designed for the older Eee netbooks.

True. but i read on here that the samsung has the best cooling out of the lot of the current netbooks and they all seem fine running at 1.9 - 2.0ghz. plus theyre cheap so if it dies easy to just get another.

bulenc , i have just purchased the NC10 and wonder if you could advise how you went about re-installing the OS on the new HD. I read that it's not very easy to install windows on the NC10 due to needing drivers etc, and as i would also like to upgrade the Hd i would be grateful for any pointers. Also has your new hard drive made any noticeable difference in real world use. Thanks in advance

wouldnt recomend it, the laptop cpu gets VERY hot as it is never mind trying to overclock then.!
not worth it expence if it all goes wrong

The CPU on my NC10 doesn't get above 30 degrees even when playing a 720p MKV.
You are aware we are talking about a netbook with an Atom CPU, not a normal laptop? They run significantly cooler.

I agree. My cpu on my sammy is 68 C, and i am just browsing

I would suggest your heatsink isn't seated properly, or the software you are using to read the temperature sensor is rubbish.

I was using the latest core temp. I only have the sammy a day so no in-depth look at it.

I installed everest and the temps report the cpu at 39 and the cpu diode at 63.

I panicked there for a minute:p. Assuming everest is right of course, that temp puts me at ease

im also abit concerned with my realtemps, temps were showing 60c but after setting the tjmax to 100 it brought the temps down to 37c ish.
i have checked the heatsink and put new paste on it just ot make sure, but to be honest the heatsink doesnt seem that good as its just a thin plate of alu and covers both cpu and gpu.
would be nice to maybe stick something better with copper mix as we see on normal heatsinks.

Why would you Overclock your netbook the battry time would be reduced a lot also if you wanted lots of power by a laptop>?
