Opteron 148

Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra

GeIL 2GB PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3

i had this setup clocked to jsut over 3.0 ages ago but decided to put it back to standard settings cause i wasnt doing much with games and it seemed a waste to have it running so fast for nothing.

anyway i got back into gaming and im wanting it clocked again, but i cant for the life of me remember what i had everything set to.. if anyone can remember what settings they used to get their setup to around 3.0 id be very greatful :)

I guess I should field that one :p

My machine is shut down at the moment, but I'll open it up and have a look.

Looking at about 11x272 obviously, had mine at about 1.45v on the vcore and then set the divider according to your RAM (i'd recommend keeping the geil at about 200 - about 4:3). Remember to set the htt multi (LDT) to 3 to avoid overcooking the HTT frequency.

What specifically were you after?

i think the ram timings are the main thing i cant fathom, i remember that i could only get 3.0 stable if it was 10x300 rather than 11x272, im pretty cool setting that up though its just the ram timings and the htt i think? i wouldnt be that bothered about getting it right upto 3.0 again, id be quite happy with 2.8 - 2.9

with both 300 and 272 (yeah - 300x10 is probably more sensible as long as your mobo has it in it!) you need to set the LDT to 3 and you'll be fine.

With the ram - I just use a divider to keep it at 200 (so 3:2 at 300) and then leave the timings at auto - saves the hastle - just run memtest to be sure then off you go!

running my opty 148 at the following:

htt 600 (3X)
fsb 260.2 (will do 270 but the attics been warm so ive dropped it a bit)
core 1.4v
multiplier 11X

running my 2 gig of corsair XMS at 2.9v with the following timings

set frequency down to 133
6,3,3,3,10
CAS 2.5
1T

heres my rig settings in html format

ignore the reported ram frequency in CPUz report, its incorrect.

i hope it helps ;)

Thanks for the replys, you help is appreciated :)

i think i must be doing something wrong somewhere.. i cant get it to load into windows at anymore than 2.4ghz, and when i check the cpu speed in cpuz its coming up that its still at 2.2 ...

ive uploaded some pics into a zip, maybe someone could see an error that ive made

memclock index value in picure DSC00058 drop it to 133.

CPU core voltage is too high, its pushing your temperature up. the opty 148 doesnt like going above 49oC under load. your at 44oC idle! drop your core voltage to 1.4, only ever increase the core volts to stabilise a high overclock. you dont need any increase for the small clock your running. hell im at stock core volts of 1.4v and im overclocked to 2.85Ghz.

my board will only let me go to 200mhz on the memory. the reason the voltage is set to 1.5 is cause thats what i had to use to get 3.0 last time, it seems a bit strange that i cant get more than 2.4 (and it isnt registering as an overclock in windows) when i was getting 3.0 last time

if you cant drop that memory speed to 133 then your stuffed. the ram wont clock anywhere near as high as the CPU, hence you need to drop the speed of the ram to give you the neaded head room. your core voltage is still way too high, not needed on an opteron, they are low voltage CPU`s.

you could always buy some new ram, i.e. PC4000

IIRC the A8N-E used 400,333,266 etc dividers for the RAM. Set it to 266 if you're setting your fsb to 300x10 to have your ram running at DDR400 speed.

im not using any differant gear to last time, everything is exactly the same...

ill drop the voltages and see what happens but i still think there is an issue somewhere else, maybe i should try removing the chip and refitting.. ill be back :)

yup thats how i did it last time, set a divider, i had it running 3.0 stable and nothing has changed inside the case

I've found some of my old notes for my old A8N-E and Opty 146. From looking at your pics, set these-

Dram Config-

Memclock index value- 266Mhz
Trcd- 3
Trp- 3
1T/2T Memory Timing- 1T (unless you've got 4 sticks of RAM).
S/W DRAM over 4gb Remapping- Disabled
H/W " " " " - Disabled

Jumperfree Config-

CPU Freq- 280Mhz
DDR Voltage- 2.7v
CPU Multiplier- 10
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode- 33.33Mhz.

That may help you to get into Windows at 2.8Ghz.
