Overclocking temperature help

Hi all,

My friend and i have decided that in light of getting new conroe systems theis christmas, we would push our current cpu's as far as we could in order for bragging right etc.

I have an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe, Opty 144 and 2gb of G.skill ram,

He has an Asus A8N something (£65 version), Athlon 64 3200 and 2gb of Geil ram (ultra something or other) - sorry for breif details,

I have my system stable at 2.6ghz and running 22/25 C idle and 30/33C Load

his is at 2.2ghz and running 32/34C idle and 38/40C Load stable.

what i would like to know is how his is hotter than mine, we both have the same Vapochill micro HSF with AC Ryan 92mm on both at medium speed, the only differance i can see if that my mobo is WTX style in a CM Stacker wheras his is normal ATX in a Tharmaltake Shark, could this really be the decider?

any help appreciated.
 
Some possible reasons:

What's room temperature for both comp environments?
What kind of case airflow do you both have?
What's the case temp of both comps?
What's the VCore on both chips?

All chips are different, some will run hotter than others even from the same production line.
 
erm room temps around the same, mines at 1.550v and his is at 1.420 i think, the cases are both cooled by thermaltake 120mm on the front and AC Ryan 120mms on the back, i built both at the same time last year and he asked for the same components as mine so.

sureley with his case being aluminium it should be cooler?

im not complaing eitherway, it jsut seems odd to me
 
Hi, maybe the temp sensors on the board could be reading different. Also what core is the A64 3200+ venice or winchester, as venice run cooler than a winnie ?? Also the opty 144 is a different chip architect to the 3200+, so that will explain the difference as both systems are not equally the same, so not a fair test IMHO.

Then you got the GFX, and how much heat is being pushed out by the HSF on the cards, and what other PCI cards has he got in his system or different stuff to you inside.

well apart from *** architecture, its a venice, i stripped it and reaplied paste any everything, he has no other pci cards, jsut a 7800gt like mine, same make and everything, i ahve and xfi in my case as well
