Overclocking temps (whilst stress testing)

Evening all,

I've managed to overclock my i5 2500k to 4.6GHz and its stable (been testing for the past 5 hours or so) being cooled by a H80.

When running programmes such as Prime 95 and OCCT the temps hit max 75c (which can be questionable?) I'm just wondering whether this is safe still? On idle it runs at around 28c give or take a couple of degrees. I've read around a couple of threads and sites and this is normal for it to get this high during testing. Just want to confirm that this is normal and fine.

Cheers :)

75c is fine for stress testing. The temps you reach under such load are a good bit higher than what you will get in normal use.

Plenty room to clock higher, could try for 4.7ghz or 4.8ghz,temps and voltages are fine

Mid 80c and below 1.4v ideally around 1.35v CPU voltages are fine

On my 4690k @4.6, I'm getting low 70's under full stress.

I'm quite pleased so going to try for the 4.8 mark :P

Good luck :D What cooler do you have?

Side note: Does anyone have any recommendations for cooling fans for a H80? I'm currently using the Corsair AF 120 Performance Ed.

I'd also be interested in what cooler you have as I have a 4690k sitting at stock but I opted for the child of the Corsair all in ones H60. Will no doubt replace it when I come to OC.

Corsair sp's work a bit better for rads/heatsinks.

Brilliant, cheers :)

Update: Tried to overclock to 4.7GHz but the CPU wouldn't handle it so reverted back to 4.6GHz and all is stable, idles around 24c which is pretty good. Overall very happy, now just need to learn how to overclock ram.
