Hi everyone, I have been fiddling around with OC since i attached a new air/water cooler. I've been stress testing with Prime95 and monitoring with CPU-z and Open Hardware Monitor and although it runs for 2 hours with no problems.

What i am wondering is the cores seem to downclock to 4.1-4.2 from 4.6 for a lot of the test and then goes back up to 4.6 sometimes, is this the cpu downclocking because something is wrong or is that just the way it runs with Prime?

How hot is it running? The chip could be throttling due to heat. Realtemp or Coretemp would be best to tell you

If Intel speedstep is on, it normally goes down to 1.6ghz (or somewhere close). Quite strange its going down to 4.1ghz.

What temps are you getting with Prime?

sorry for the late response i've been busy all week! It's only hitting 62 degrees at 4.6 Ghz, whether i have it at 1.275 or 1.375 it slows down a bit, when i have bf3 running it always stays at full clock speeds no problem. I left speedstep on as i don't need it going 4.6 Ghz for doing browsing and college work, would this be conflicting with Prime somehow? It hasn't BSOD'd on me or anything strange like that. It seems to like ~1.35 for 4.6 because i noticed it was slow starting up and increasing the voltage to 1.35 seemed to work well!.

Does anyone else's 2500k do this? Doesn't seem faulty to me :-/

Sigh.. you likely have the correct answer to your problem in the two posts above you did you read them? What board do you have? You're likely still running stock 95w power limits which will have to be increased.
