Just got my 2900XT 512 to replace my 8800GTS 320, and I'm blown away by the difference, it's awesome.

However, being the performance hungry user I am, I'm curious about overclocking the card. The fan is a total monster at 100%, so is it safe to just leave it on auto?

I'm using a Hiper 580 (two 6 pins, not the 8), and was wondering if that means I can't overclock very well or will cause problems. Wondering what kind of results people have gotten with two 6 pins!

In Vista x64 using rivatuner.

Thanks!

I was under the impression you need a 6 and an 8 to overclock. But others have said that thats just ati trying to stop you or something. Serposidly there is a way round it and you can overclock with 6 and 6.

Well no harm should come of it, most that will happen is your PC will randomly reboot if the card cant get enough power from the PSU, i overclock the 2900 with 2x6 pin on a 600 watt tagan and have never had any stability issues, of course if you clock to far then you will see stability problems arise.

Nah me using 2x 6pins and got 850/1000.

As people said using ATi tool works, and Riviatuner.

You can overclock fine on 2x 6x Pins, all it means is you can't use the Overdrive function in the drivers to overclock (as the 8x Pin is needed to unlock it, and thats all the 8x Pin is for :p ), so you use ATi Tool etc... instead to overclock. :)

Thanks for the replies!

Just thought I'd better make sure.

In regards to the fan; just leave it on auto? Or should I crank it up the deafening 100%?
