Overclocking the 3570k

Got a 3570k on a maximus gene v board and has CPU level up on the bios will it be safe for me to overlock the CPU to higher with the stock fan?

Yeah you should be able to achieve a small Overclock, around 4GHz, but keep an eye on the temps.

Says I can to 4.2 what would be high temp n would I ruin the CPU or just cause it to be unstable?

It should down clock the CPU, and then shutdown the computer if the temps get too high. But look to keep them under 70C.

To be honest, there is no need to overclock the 3570k if you're on stock fan. Are you seeing it struggle at all? If you wish to overclock, do it with a custom cooler. As said before it is best to keep temps below 70'c. At stock with stock cooler I was hitting 70'c in BF3...

Well I have 660ti running crysis on full spec no lag but with hitman absolution on full still getting lag so thought maybe a overlock might help

I can assure you hitman absolution is making full use of your CPU, that's an extremely heavy game on the GPU and gave my GTX670 at 1.3GHz a run for its money. If you want to run it full whack overclock your gpu not cpu

If you want to achieve more acceptable frames I suggest turning down the AA, the 660ti has a 192bit width memory bus which causes it struggle with demanding AA.
