Hi guys, i just did a search for this and didn't see anything so I apologise if I have missed it.

I have just installed the ATI 6990 and had a look at the afterburner software.

I'll be honest as a novice overclocker it scares me :D

Is there a guide anywhere that explains how to use afterburner properly without destroying my nice shiny new card?

Many Thanks

Marv

Don't touch the voltage control!

There is another program Kombuster that will stress test the card for stability - it is by MSI but I couldn't get it to install:confused:

I read reviews of my GPU to see what "ball park" setting there were overclocking. Just use small steps & run a game or 3D Mark as soon as you see artifacts - shiny spots - lower the settings until they go away. What your temps! You can use afterburner to increase fab speed. My 506 Ti hardly gets above 62C & mostly in 50's

download MSI afterburner to adjust the clock speeds, and download OCCT to test if the overclock is stable (25 minute test minimum)

so simple even i can do it

Me too :)

I don't know if this can be backed up by fact, but I found my Furmarks to have a higher FPS by keeping my card 'balanced' eg I had a 950 core and 1900 shader. So with a 1000 core I gave a 2000 shader clock to make sure everything was at the same ratio. Musta been set like that for a reason.

I'm no expert (in fact I know nothing) in overclocking GPUs.

But I found this article for you which may help:

Here

Thanks mate it did. I shall try that switch tomorrow. TBH, I don't need any power as I haven't found anything yet that it can't handle on full detail with it's out of the box settings. But it would be nice to know I can call on more rendering power if needed.

Just downloaded the latest beta of this and will try it out tomorrow.

Many thanks for your help guys ;)

Hello again. I am having a spot of bovver :D

I was looking through my catalyst settings and believe I clicked on an option to extend the desktop to my second monitor.

After this point my main monitor went to sleep. This was the only one that was currently working becuase of the mini display adaptor issue I was discussing earlier.

From that point on as soon as I logged into windows my monitor went to sleep.

I dual boot. So was able to boot into my gaming operating system which is identical to the main operating system it is just on a seperate hard drive and has no rubbish on it.

In an effort to fix this I am trying to find my catalyst settings and copy them over to my operating system that has the faulty catalyst settings.

From 2 hours od research I have found they are supposed to be here:

/etc/ati/amdpcsdb

Problem is, can't find that location.
I have found this location:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

The only thing in there however is:

hosts
Imhosts.sam
netwroks
protocol
services

Am I trying to do something that just wont work?

Is there another solution to my problem?

Where are the settings?

Can any one assist?
