I will be ordering a E6420 and the Crucial Ballistix 5300 C3 memory. Hope someone can clear a few things up for me. Rest of my pc in SIG.

The E6420 has a multiplier of 8, if i leave it at 8 and raise the FSB to 400 and have my memory running at 800 MHZ 4-4-4-12 this is a 1:1 ratio, correct?

1: If i down the multi to 7 raise the FSB to 500 (hopefully) and run my memory at 1000MHZ:

2: If i leave the Multi at 8, raise the FSB to 450 and run my memory at 100MHZ, this is not a 1:1 ratio right?

Whats the advantage over running a 1:1 ratio, unlike number 2?

Any advantage/disadvantage, lowering the Multi?

Also memory running at 800MHZ 4-4-4-12 vs 1000mhz 5-5-5-15, which is more reliable?

Thanks everyone.

Yes

That should be fine.

Nope not 1:1. Tho I don't know if you'll get a divider that will let you run your memory at exactly 1000mhz with a 450mhz FSB.

8x450 will give you a higher clock speed than 500x7. That will probably negate
any differences between 1:1 and another divider.

Lowering the multiplier lets you increase the FSB and gives a slight advantage at the same clock speed. But a higher FSB may give you less RAM divider options due to faster memory being needed.

And 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 will be faster. Intel systems love memory speed over timings and the extra 200mhz should more than cover the looser timings.

You have to be aware that 500x7 and 450x8 might be out of reach for an e6420.

But good luck trying.

I can not decide.

If i go for the E6320, which Ram would i be better of with?
Or should i go for the E6420 and the Crucial Ballistix 5300 Memory?
Just get the E6600? lol

E6320 and Ballistix would be my choice. Ballistix is ment to be the best stuff out there so I recon it'd keep up with the E6320. Anyone else care to venture an oppinion?
