I must have read the overclocking guide a 100 times but cant seem to get my head around overclocking!

Ive been playing about with the bios and running tests increasing bits here and there but cant seem to keep a stable system!

In the guide it sets to drop the multiplier so that it doesnt go above stock?
Thats the first bit i dont get!
The default is 266 * 9
I read the guide as to say try 271 * 8?

Boy this is confusing!
My memory is set to auto ajust itself with the cpu, (or i have options, 2, 2.5.. ect)
Voltages is also something i need help on, the only voltage i need to increase is the cpu?

Also in the case:

Artic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro
2GB Geil DDR2 800mhz mem
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3
Tagan Ultra slient 580 PSU

Any quick pointers if someone has a simlar setup or more advice on where im been a dunse would be much appreciated

i would leave the memory options for now. but basically those numbers are the ram timings which u can change bu i would leave that for now. are you new to overclocking. add me on msn if u need abit of help

Start with the memory at 2.0

Have you upgraded to the latest bios?

The latest offical BIOS is F3.

Set the PCI Frequency to: 100

I'll stick up a screenie of my BIOS settings later... But I am running an e6400.

There is also some people on xtremesystems that are having very good results with an e6600 and DS4 by using the latest Beta Bios F5 or F5B I think....

Hi, Ive also got an E6600 and a DS4.
I suggest that you have a go by doing what you were doing but also what was suggested above, namely lock PCI-E frequency at 100, and drop the memory divider to 2. Then try setting the multi at 6 (so that we can find max FSB) and starting the FSB at 275, then increasing in 5 Mhz incremeents. (in effect following jokester's guide).

I would also HIGHLY recommend flashing to F5C as that has allowed me to overclock an additional 70FSB on the DS4 with my E6600.

Whats the easiest way to update to this bios without having a floppy drive?
I managed to get to F3 as there was a windows update utility

as to updating bios - i just use the windows tool supplied on disc, however, if your system is unstable DONT do this, as if it crashes during flash, you will have a real problem turning it back on ;)
