I have had the amazingly good Intel E6600 2.4ghz dual core processor in my rig now for about 3 years..

I upgraded at the time from an AMD FX55 SLI system... so I replaced my mainboard at the same time.

I have since changed the mainboard again... (a while ago).. to an Asus P5QL (with latest bios).

All the tips about overclocking the E6600 that I have found have been a little sparse as the processor is now quite old. The ones I have found however have said that it is possible to clock this to over 3ghz with adequate cooling.

Last week I got a Coolermaster 600 Gladiator case to accompany a Corsair H50-1 processor water cooling sealed system. The processor now runs at about 24 degrees C at idle and sits at around 33 degrees C under full load (playing Bad Company 2).

I have tried to clock the processor before but it was very unstable even with a slight boost in the voltage recommended to me. The machine locks up on boot.

I did get it working at 2.84ghz for about 10 minutes before the machine froze. All this was before I got the coolermaster case so the temperatures were between 38C at idle and 60C under load... which I didn't like.

Does anyone have an experience in overclocking the E6600 to around 3ghz and what temperatures the processor would be able to handle over extended periods. I did figure that with my new cooling I would be happy for it to run at 45C as that is not far above the old idle temp I used to get.

My old e6600 which i've just replaced with a shiney new i7 930 was running fine at 3.0 with a 0.01 increase from default vcore for nearly 2 years. Core temps were about 42 at idle and up to 55 at full load with prime, usual load on gaming and core was around 52C. That was on an old AW9DMax board, and with a stock cooler (eek!).

The main issue I found overclocking with that board was the RAM, with 2x1GB (OCZ platinum iirc) it was ok, when i upgraded to 4x1GB I could not overclock much at all without instability, and with 2x4GB ReaperX I lowered the RAM multiplier so the ram was still just about in spec, and it ran fine at 3GHz for years. RAM voltage up at 2.1 which was as high as that board supported.

If and when I get round to recasing that motherboard I'll let you know the results, its still sat on the shelf with the cpu/ram/cooler installed and the 3ghz settings in the bios.

I'm currently running my e6600 at 3.5ghz :D

The cooler is my case - Themaltake kandalf lcs, not the best in the world, but adequate.

I'll see if i can send you a link for specific OC for this CPU :)

Meh, this sendingof messages privately is a pain.

Should be the first post me thinks, its a great guide. (I hope this is ok with the forum rules lol)
