Overclocking the non-k cpus

I don't play very many super demanding games.

Realisticaly how much fps does overclocking your CPU give you? I'm thinking of building a haswell setup and wondering if I really need a 'k' cpu and if overclocking is really necessary.

I will NEVER go SLI/Crossfire so I don't see the need for a beefy CPU.

Any light to shed on this please, thanks.

From My experience not a lot in term of FPS.

with my 570, the CPU at stock and at 4.5Ghz there was a 1 FPS difference in DIRT3 (1.2%)..

The main reason to overclock (for gaming) is to unlock any bottleneck you may have on your GPU(s). If you are only running one card i can't see this being a problem.

Take a look at the 2500k stock and 5ghz.

I have a 3470 non-K but have it @ 4GHz and only had a 2 fps increase in games not really worth it tbh

You can still do a very mild oc of non k cpus,if you set a 103 bclk,you'll also gain a slight oc on your memory speed

Again its a free small boost over stock clocks

Depends what you mean by low end? And by how much of an overclock you would be doing on it. To be frank though it wouldn't be a massive increase, Depends on the type of game.

Depends on the game and the degree of OC.

If you start at 3.8 stock and OC to 4.2 for a 10% OC that's trivial for gaming purposes.

My i5 750 is 2.66 stock and 3.8 OC for a 42% OC which I really notice in SWTOR (a mmo). Played like a slug when a power cut reset the bios (and OC settings).

it really depends on the game as to whether you notice it, if its not cpu bound then an OC wont do a thing, if it is then it can make a big difference.
