Hey guys and girls

I am looking at OCing my Q6600 for the first time. I have just sorted my temps out and everything is set to go.

However, I have read that some people just whack it up to 333Mhz straight away with no issues, but when I used to overclock 2500+ Bartons, I took my times increasing 5Mhz at a time. Has something changed from back then?

Also, my RAM is 800Mhz, with a current FSB:DRAM of 2:3. 5-5-5-15 Timings. Am I looking to keep my ram at 800Mhz through dividers? (I think dividers is the right term...)

Lastly, Vcore...I want to manaully set this from what I have read, but what is the stock Vcore of the Q6600?

Thanks

Nice looking mobo mate.

I think depending on the mobo itself depends on what oc you put straight off the bat, i went to 3.2 straight away with no probs, with a v-core of 1.4178 or around that mark, then up to 3.4 with a v-of 1.425 which is where i'm at now.

Check your bios for the v-core stock, if you havent touched your bios it should all be in auto timings. i.e. v-core, dram etc..

Make sure you have cpuid, core temp and prime 95 as well and do a bios update too

This may be of help, i havent read much as i'm at work but it might be useful

Ok, just raised the FSB to 276 (2488Mhz) and testing. I think I shall do it slowly, doing 10min prime95s until I hit 3Ghz, then do a good 2-3hour prime95 at 3Ghz to test stabilty.

I am concerned about my RAM though, so if in the Bios I change it from Auto to 800Mhz, it should be ok yea and should automatically set a divider?

I have a Q6600 also I can safely run it at 3.4GHz (425MHz x 8 multiplier) Vcore is set to 1.43V my Ram is 2 x 2GB Geil 800 Mhz 5-5-5-15 Black dragon (It is actually running at 850Mhz) using Dram ratio of 1:1 and I have set the voltage for my ram at 2V.

I use artic freezer pro 7 and my pc will idle around 40.C: under load it... 68.C max just running quick test and on my mobo there is quite a Vdroop so may push voltage to 1.465 pushin on 1.5 might try attain 3.6

Well I am at 2.7Ghz right now.

I cant find in my Bios DRAM ratios, I have something that is DRAM but it has the frequencys in there. At the moment I am running 300Mhz x9. I think on the next one, I will drop the Mhz of the memory down otherwise ill be running it higher then 900Mhz! (LOL as I wrote that I had a BSOD).

I have since the previous paragraph put my memory to run at 750Mhz. I know thats underclocking my memory but as I go higher OCing it will go nearer and above 800Mhz again. It didnt like 900Mhz lol!

Will keep you posted.

Anyone want to put a wager on how far I can push this puppy?

I am using the Megahalems with an Apache Black on it so you know.

With that board and processor cooling ,, with care 3.4ghz and more ( 3.7ghz max on this ) :D

Though it was over 3+ years now since i owned a Q6600 so cant quit remember my exact bios specs for my clocks.

McT

At the moment I am just testing 2.88Ghz.

Havent changed an volts yet, so its a good sign really. Ram is running at 800Mhz again too. Next stop is 333Mhz. Roll on 3Ghz!

Try 378x9, set v-core as low as you can, mine is 1.425 for 3.4 oc

You may have to upgrade your ram to 1066mhz for higher stable oc!!

Just testing 3Ghz right now. 333Mhz x9, Ram at 5:6 = 800Mhz RAM.

I know I should get 1066Mhz RAM but if I can reach something like 3.2-3.4Ghz without any issues with this RAM I cant really complain.

If you get to 400fsb or above, switch to a 1:1 memory divider.

The reason ur memory craped out at 900mhz was probably due to its timings, and not that it can't do it.

As an example my 800mhz memory, will comfortably do 900mhz with 4,4,4,12 timings, but for 901mhz it needs 5,5,5,15, and for 1000mhz needs to be left on auto and timings are like 5,5,5,20.

But you are right in trying to keep the memory stock for now, but they will do more, but first get a stable cpu clock your happy with, then u can mess with memory.

If you can get it working at a decent vcore, and temps 400 x 9 will give you 3.6ghz and will allow the memory to run at stock using a divider of 1:1.

So thats the max you can aim for using 800mhz memory, if u don't wanna overclock that too.

good luck with the testing

Oh definately try with your current mem mate, the price of mem these days is crazy, thats the problem i found when oc'ing, the upgrade fairy came and virtually raped me!!!!

I dont actually know where to find this 1:1 divider in my bios. Any ideas?

Oh and another question, what are my max temps? Right now its around 60c under prime95 thats been running for about 25mins. Max was 63c but usually around 60c.

http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php and look at TMPIN0 reading
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Ok also just checked bios pictures for ur mobo, where you select the dividers is abit diff to some other mobos'.

Where it says Dram freq and u get to chose the speed of ur memory, thats it.. so say for example u had 400fsb.

In the dram freq section the lowest speed it would say is DDR2 800 (that would be 1:1)

About the temps, u can comfortably go upto 90/100c on the cores, but generally a lot try and keep that below 70c.

Overall cpu temp max is 71c.

Looks like at stock my CPU is 28c, ill do a quick prime for a few moments to get some idea of CPU temp @ load.

Yea thats the setting in the bios I have been keeping as near to 800Mhz as possible.

So I know next time I bump up the speed, prob to 3.1Ghzish, I will have to up my vcore probably. My bios has options such as +0.25, +0.5 etc...things like that. How would I find the stock voltage of my chip so that I know when I add to it how much I actually have?

Yep I have core temp. My VID is 1.3000v.

Just priming 3.11Ghz at the moment. RAM is running at 830Mhz at the moment.

Going to prime until midnight at 3.1Ghz, see if everything holds up ok.

I thought I heard people saying that they started changing vcores around 3GHz+ but I dont seem to have had to right now and all seems ok. Is this normal yea?

Oh and it is ok to use my PC whilst prime95 runs right? Or should I be leaving it by itself?
