hello all:D

mobo
Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

cpu
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 555 3.20GHz Black Edition

i went into my bios and changed 2 settings

first i changed ai overclock tuner from auto to cpu level up

then i went down 1 and changed the cpu ratio from auto to 17.00x, at the top of the screen it shows me the target cpu frequency before i changed anything it showed 3200 mhz after i changed it showed 3400mhz

loaded windows up, opened cpuz and its showing 3401.1mhz if i remember correctly

does this mean i have overclocked my cpu?

Very slightly, yes.

Now it's time to get prime 95 out and see if it is stable.

go in bois and chnge it again so it shows 3900Mhz. find the voltage options and put the CPU voltage (or Vcore) up by 3 button presses.

downland prime95 and run it for abut 5hr's and yo should be golden. if you get an error post the screen shot in here or more advice

you can just google prime95 it's free

But don't do that if you don't have an aftermarket cooler. I suggest you have a read of this: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17612922

little high that matey, that cooler is ok, its a entry level performance heatsink, will be fine for 3.xghz clocks on that chip tho

i would imagine your HT Link and NB frequencies being higher would improve your overall system performance more than just raw CPU frequency.

the Crosshair board have really comprehensive bioses that allow for really solid overclocks, it is really worth looking into what you can squeeze out of your northbrige and HT as well as your CPU.

thanks :D

so what would a resonable temperature be? if i go to 3.4ghz load temps are 55c - 56c is this ok

also i changed HT Link speed to 2000mhz and the cpu nb frequecy to 2400mhz is this correct should i go higher? lower? all temps stay the same

im new to this sorry for asking so much :D
