i just bought my new rig:

E6300
p5b deluxe
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz
Freezer 7 pr0

from reading other posts here everyone seems to get around 3GHz.
But im struggling to get 2.4GHz orthos stable.
Any reasons and tips?

Yes, I have to be honest I'm getting pretty tired of people asking basic stuff like why does my E6400 run at 1600MHz when it's idle or how do I see the memory timings on a DS3. I suppose it's our own fault for answering them all the time.

But how else am I to pad my post-count? I hate GD with a vengeance, I got laughed out of Motors after I disclosed I had spent almost £8,000 on getting 230bhp from a £12,000 130bhp Skoda Fabia diesel and no-one is selling anything I want to buy in MM.

Frankly, I may have to stop judging myself by how big my post count is and go outside

What happened to helping people out guys?
You see a post count/date reg and act accordingly

Agreed.

I'll help if someone bothers to show that they have at least read some stickies.

The fact that most post with 6300 and DS3 combo proves to me they have at least read up on what hardware to buy.

When it come to clocking it though they want spoon fed the answers.

when in reality there is enough info on the forums for this already.

Asking how to get the last 200 mhz when at 3.2 ghz for example shows thought.

You dont buy overclocking hardware to be told how to clock it.

The fun is finding out yourself with guidance on the forums.

I hang around here to help people, read advice, and generally be entertained. If someone has a problem, I will try and help if I can - I wont just presume they're incapable of helping themselves and slate them for that.

@ the OP, how about raising the vCore (what is it currently)? What temperatures does Intel TAT give at 2.4, just outta interest..?

vcore has been up to 1.45v but gaining very little. ram has been up to 2.15ish and most of the voltages have gone up at least one notch aswell.
i have another p5b here with a 6600 and it runs orthos @ 3.6 all day long.
i was hoping i was doing sumthin wrong with this chip and you could help me out. :)

Up the vcore past 1.45 v

All chips are different.

It seems a bit wierd doesn't it. You could just have a bad clocking chip.

How about increasing vFSB or chipset voltage (vMCH I think) slightly?

Post count has nothing to do with helping out someone who want's spoon fed.

Jokester and I helped to make the stickies at the top of this section so people don't ask the same questions again and again and it can be frustrating when people ask questions of which answers are easily found in a sticky, to be fair answers can be missed through the search function though. I try not to assume anything as PC's can be darn fussy some times and the answer isn't always as obvious as it seems.

I just let the other noobs answer now :p

/end rant

Twice. I have a standard car and a maxxed out one. But my real love is my 1973 Saab 96 (ex. Tom Trana) Works Rally Car.

While I understand the frustration of answering the same questions again and again (I've spent enough time as a reg in support forums and IRC channels to know how it grinds you down), there is a certain amount of leeway you need to give. In this case, I'd just ask if the person has followed the sticky rather than assume that they haven't because they didn't mention it.

To the OP: I found myself with a completely unclockable E6300 and it turned out to be the RAM, which was Geil PC6400C4 too. Assuming that you have got everything else set up fine (voltages, memory timings and you're happy that you aren't simply overheating due to poor airflow or a bad heatsink fit), I would try a couple of runs with just one of your RAM modules in at a time. If you suddenly find that you can clock up much further then you've found your problem.
