So I have a sapphire HD radion 7950 and have felt no need to OC . I still don't on the games I'm playing but just fancied having a little dabble on benchmarks.

I tried upping the core +20 on trixx but when I do this my benchmarks on valley drop quite a bit compared to leaving it stock.

Am I doing something wrong?

When the performance dips do you have to hard reset to get the gpu working normal again, reason why i am asking is because i had a gtx 770 that did the same thing if i tried adding 20 to 30mhz on the core.

Make sure you have OD +20% powertune enabled in CCC or the GPU will not get any extra juice which will cause throttling.

#1 go into CCC and accept the disclaimer.
#2 enable OD
#3 set +20% Powertune in Trixx
#4 look to make sure its taken in CCC

+1 humbug, although if using trix to increase the power limit, you don't need to enable it in overdrive as Trixx changes it on ccc with overdrive off behind the scenes anyway

You dont want to use CCC PERIOD. Disable overdrive completely.

Use Trixx only. Max out your fan speed and voltage, work from there with the clock speeds.

Why are you enabling OD in CCC humbug and then doing the same thing in Trixx? Asking for conflicts surely...

Do it in and Trixx and leave CCC alone. In fact I don't even have CCC installed.

I only use Trixx for Benching overclocks, i only ran it to show sprite1275 what to do.

For gaming clocks i run MSI AB which will not set clocks / Power Tune unless you enable OD in CCC, if you don't need to in Trixx then fair enough :)

He still needs to set Power Tune tho...

Edit...

Thanks people. ive upped the power limit and im now seeing gains :)

nvm :)

I never enable OD in CCC, yet AB sets clocks/power tune just fine.
Are you sure mate? :)

Ah... ^^^ thanks.

Oh yes, it shows at set in MSI AB, it also takes initially but resets on reboot if not shortly after.

Mind you, i also found the same thing with my last Powercolor card, maybe its a Powercolor thing?

As long as it is reference it doesnt matter, im not sure if your cards are ref but the only thing that differs is the sticker and bios. And i dont see why bios would ruin the compatibility with MSI AB if its a ref card.
