Getting a Freezer Pro on Wed, Wanted to overclock my x2 4200+ I want to get a big boost over my previous 4000+ As I'm not quite happy with my Rig atm, I've never overclocked before and was wondering how I should go about it?

I'm gonna have to put some new paste on it which should be no probs should I wait the full 200 hours for the Artic Silver to reach its peak profermance?

Also I've got 64 Bit Vista will this affect any Overclocking Programs?

And Finally What Prog should I use?

Cheers JoeBoi

You could just use the paste that come pre-applied on the Freezer7, it's MX-1 paste which is fairly highly rated. My temps didn't differ much between MX-1 and Arctic Silver. I also overclocked right away without waiting for the paste to bed in.

Your best bet for overclocking is from within the bios. My motherboard came with some software to overclock within windows, but I prefer doing it from the bios. The application for it seemed too keen to bump the cpu voltage up when it wasn't necessary.

I don't know wether Asus boards come with an overclocking app, but try and do if via the bios. Read up on the stickies in the Overclocking & Cooling forum. I haven't any experience of overclocking AMD cpu's, only Intel's, but it's the same principles.

If you have any problems, post a thread in the Overclocking forum. Good luck.
