Hi guys,

A few weeks ago i had loads of problems with getting stable overclocks but after fixing some ram issues im now im at 2.8ghz (taking it a few fsb each day). Went for a game of CSS but steam said that counter strike wasnt installed?! WTF?! Its in the directory and everything is there but steam doesnt see its installed!

Any ideas/fixes/etc?

Probably 0% to do with your overclock and 100% to do with steam.

Try signing out of steam and logging back in. :)

If you're concerned about loosing data, try running memtest for a few iterations and sp2004 with large ffts which will test a bit of everything including some pagefile. If they all pass fine then you needn't worry about any data corruption (providing you have backups of course).

Is your PCI-x bus locked at 100MHz? I found that my raid array had problems if it was much over 100 and over 120 it would dissapear entirely and I couldn't boot off it.

You mean pci bus? (not to be pedantic but pci-x is a different thing)
I think almost all modern boards have automatic pci locks, but worth a check.

Yep did that yesterday, passed it all :)

The PCI is locked at 100mhz aswell.

Iv tried re-updating steam but it wont recognize still. I guess ill just let it update itself again.

Im also having another problem, which is when i boot up into windows, i get a "system has recovered from a serious error"?? Eh? Its running like a dream and yet i get this message? I submitted the error and microsoft says its a driver error but unable to specify which one

heres a screeny for you all

Hi

Doubt my HDDs are failing, speedfan says they are both 100% fit, and both are under 30 degrees atm, i only got these drives a couple months ago aswell, i would be gutted if they are failing already :(

Ill tinker with some memory settings and get back to you guys :)

I don't think problems with steam can be proof of data corruption. As mentioned i think its a steam problem not a data problem.

Try uninstalling Steam then reinstalling it. Though you might have to reinstall CS:S after that.

In fact try just uninstalling CS:S and reinstalling it.

Yes i think its a problem with the program not data corruption aswell, as i have had problems with norton antivirus "loosing" updates.

Did you actually log out of steam then logged back on? update is no logging in and out.
I have re-updated steam and reinstalled steam to no effect :( Had to install the games all over again.

Yep i did that, took ages :(

I Have a very serious suspicion its my ram, as it wont run at 5-5-5-12 (reccommended settings from corsair) at 2.1v even with a non-overclocked cpu.

Ill run memtest over the weekend but im 95% sure its the ram. I wish i bought g-skill and not xms2 now :( Might need to RMA :(

OMFG i was right! It was a faulty ram stick!

Arggh 3 weeks of agonizing pain then i decided to test each stick individually and find a faulty one!

Do i have to RMA through corsair or through OCUK?

Anyone had an experiance with corsairs RMA?

How did you discover it was your ram... memtest?

Did you run the tests at stock? I have found a 2 errors on a 50% memtest on my ram but I lowered the volts and am about to test again. If you have voltages set high then that could cause a problem.

Run everything at stock then run the test again. If you still find the errors then you have grounds for an RMA.

Also, memtest errors aren't always caused by dodgy ram. I rma'd a board which would throw up errors regardless of the ram.

Yep, memtest86+

Nope, the memory settings were the stock ones (5-5-5-12 @ 2.1v, 400mhz, as specified when i bought the ram)

Well one stick was fine for a few hours and the other threw up errors within minutes :)

Thanks for the help guys :)
