I have been working on overclocking my card (with LOTS of help from Concord Rules), but I am still unsuccessful...

I am currently using ATI Tool, and it is showing 675/800, which is normal. I start the 3D View, and after about 20 seconds it freezes, the screen goes black, and then I end up back on the desktop with the speeds reset to 526.50/630 (2D speeds), and the 3D View box all grey...

I don't understand why it is doing this, because the volts are set at stock, fan is set to 100%, so I don't have a clue what is wrong

Hi DP,
I just bought the HD 2900XT 1 gig version and it wont run ANY of the 3D mark software @ all m8, Even after i patched ALL of them with the latest updates from 3D mark still nothing except the freeze that you are experiencing.
After phoning OC/UK tech support they said its normal coz they cant get them to run it either. The only way ive been able to remotely test this card so far is with CSS video stress test and my spare gaming machine with 2 x 7950s is getting better results.
I think my card will be going back out the same door it came in from chap.

Best regards

You can work around this issue by renaming the "Direcpll.dll" file (found in - windows\system32\Futuremark\MSC\) to something else

I found out what was wrong with this... the HIS X1900XT-X I bought is the older one with 650/775 stock clocks, but the guy I bought it off said that the guy he bought it off (all OcUK people) had flashed the BIOS.

At first I didn't know what he meant so I ignored it, but I later realised that the stock on my card was 675/800, meaning that it had already been overclocked (it was using the Sapphire Toxic BIOS).

I flashed the card back to the stock BIOS, and used ATI Overdrive to clock it up to the fastest it would go (670/795) and now it is perfectly stable!

Yeah, took me a while to work out what was wrong and why it wasn't stable for me at "stock volts". I thought 675/800 were stock until I check the card out properly, and then remembered what you had told me about the BIOS being flashed... :)

PS. I have left you feedback ;)
