Hey everyone
I want to overclock my XFX 7800GT but i am not sure how far i can safely take it. How hot cant the GPU get as i really dont know, the threshold is set too 115C but that seems really hot to me. It seems to idle at about 48C at the moment.

Can someone please help me on what the core and memory should be set at and how far i can take it. Also the software im using is ATITool but this has 3 settings, 2D, 3D low power, 3D pref. What do these mean?? I understand how overclocking works and have overclocked my CPU before so i understand the basics, but the graphics card looks a lot more tricky.

Thanks
Snikle

Dont use ATI tool to OC the Nvidia Card. Just use it to scan for artifacts. A friend has the XFX 7800GT at 490/1120 on a Artic Silencer.

Use coolbits from Guru3d.com, there are other tools but i like this as its easy. Just watch temps and increse slowely checking for artifacts with ATI tool and watching 3Dmark run.

Oh and you only want to overclock 3D mode, Forget ATI tool ok just use Coolbits 3D mode.

Thats about all there is too it mate, ;)

Not sure about XFX,

But my Club 3D is running @ 500mhz Clock and 1250Mhz Bus

I've not really tried to push it yet, not sure whether its wprth it, a 25% increase is enough for me.

My idle is about <Checks Temp> 46 C and under load it goes to about 55-57 C

Cheers,

Lety us know how you gt on

4QMan have you got any screenshots of your 7800gt at 570/1300? Whats it cooled by? If its not phase change or sub zero cooling then its probably one of the fastest 7800gt's around.

Ive done voltmods and i cant get passed 512/1215 and that was watercooled on friends pc.

At 570mhz thats well past the theroetical pixel fill rate of a 7800gtx

430 x 24 = 10.32 billion pixels per sec
570 x 20 = 11.40 billion pixels per sec

Pretty good really.

Is that sparkly/tear free in 3Dmark06 at that speed.
Ive got my 7800gtx stable at the speeds in sig using a A64 CPU fan screwed to the HS.

Yeah that was corruption and artifact free. Got 8333 05 marks. Used ATi tool for 30 mins no artifacts.

Lol genius, does it actually fit properly? Is it not awfully heavy or have u got a pencil or summit holding it up? Doubt i could get one to fit whilst also having my x-fi in place.

Youve got nice RAM there, i can barely get it past 1.2ghz. Done any volt mods.

The fan that comes with the stock AMD H/S is very slim and light weight.
I have removed the cover and unplugged the normal fan then just used some small self tapping screws to attach the fan (screws into the fins of the H/S).
Is easily slim enough to add a second card below in SLI.
Youve got a good card there, thats a decent score for 3DMark05.
What helps my card is the good system cooling, the CPU and GPU temp rise is very small from idle to load.
