Hi guys

I would appreciate it if some of you kind gentlemen would help me with memory overclocking as iv never done this before.

Is it a matter of changing the timing of the memory or just overvolting it or both ?

The memory in question is the Corsair XMS 1600

Many thanks.

You definitely don't want to be overvolting RAM on sandy bridge. The gains from overclocked RAM are so small I'd be very tempted to leave it as it is.

Yeap overclocking ram is not a big thing on the sandy's, could you check which xms3 you have? as there are two types one which volt at 1.5 and another at 1.65v.

I have the 2x2gb 1600 xms3 9,9,9,24 T2 1.65v which i run at 1600 setting T1 @ 1.375v fully stable prime blend and memtest. I also have my cpu ppl? taken down from 1.8v stock to 1.75v and keeps my 2500 @ 4.7 running perfect.

I know its not overclocking but keep things cool helps a lot :)

Kamz

I have the same ram as you Kamz but have not yet changed my CPU PLL setting just yet. I cant get above 4.4 on my 2500k yet :(

I have my ram voltage at 1.65 in bios

I think you can easily reduce the ram voltage, like i said i have mine on 1.375v and thats prime blend, memtest, intel burn test and occt stable, i even finally got to play crysis yesterday for the first time for about 3 hours straight without any issues.

You can test your ram by using the following app:

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

My remaining settings are:

2500k 4.7ghz (stepping L049A796)

Spec Asus pro, 2x2gb 1600 xms3 9,9,9,24 T1 @ 1.35v

BCLK: 100
CPU Voltage: 1.330
VCCSA: .90000
VCCIO: 1.000
CPU PLL: 1.75-1.765 (yes thats right undervolted)
PCH: Auto

Load-Line Calibration: Ultra High
CPU Current Capability: 110%
Phase Control: Extreme
Duty Control: Extreme
VRM Frequency: Auto

I have tried to overclock the ram, to 1866 no go, pumped more volts into it still no go, the best i can get is 1600 8-9-8-21 T1 at 1.475v but i dont feel it warrants the extra voltage for what i feel has no real world performance.

As previous posters really - my XMS won't overclock at all but does rated speeds 8+ hours p95 stable with 1.26875V.

Judging by your sig i take it thats with all for dimms running 8gb? if so did you need to bump any voltages? cpu ppl? change cammand rate to T2?

i want to get another 4gb since its very cheap, but the Asus manual has my spec ram unticked for 8gb compatibility (xms3 1.65v) however state the 1.5v are fine.

Would appreciate your findings if you are running 8gb

thanks

No mate 2 x 4gb. I've got the version that is rated 9-9-9-24 2T and that is what they are running. All volts auto except vcore and ram.

ahh ok cheers mate, i bought a second set so will update how i get along with 4x2gb kits, fingers crossed it all goes well.

Btw I have no idea why i didnt drop the ram volts more but im stable 1.3v now at the same settings before, just did few hours on crysis and ten passes on intel burn test, much impressed with this low volt ram :)

just a quick question i have some DDR3 XMS memory but its 1.65v, would i run into any complications when lowering the DRAM voltage for a sandybridge setup?
