Okay! I finally got my guts together and jumped onto the overclocking bandwagon last night. It was my first time, so I'm rather bad at this. Anyway, I've set the overclock to 4.5ghz with a vcore of 1.350, along with the rest of the settings. I did a prime95 test for an hour and thought it'd be enough so I left it. However, i had a change of mind and decided to leave prime95 overnight. I woke up this morning and saw the pc turned off! Turned it on, apparently got a BSOD overnight! I was wondering should i be worried and just go back to stock or overclock but decrease the clock slightly? :(

PS: doing some stress testing at the moment, passed prime95 without any errors for an hour. Might give longer stress testing another go later on. I'm gonna wet my pants if it does it again. Sorry really new to this!

hmmm well everyone has there opinions on this how ever you could reduce the clock speed slightly (i dont know the max volts for that chip im afraid) how ever if your not at max volts try going up a touch. How ever i only stress test for about 2 hours MAX as i would never play a game for 2 hours solid so for me if its stable for a couple of hours flat out thats all I personally need. i have had my machine overclocked for 4 years now and never had a problem doing it my way and the temps are low. Maybe have one BSOD every two years if that infact i cant remember if i have even had one in the last 2 years i get more on my Stock i5 Work laptop lol

Ah! Thanks for the reply.

I'm just rather scared since this is my first ever build (justlastweek!) and overclock. I might lower the clocks or up the voltage and see what happens.

well a BSOD is not going to Hurt your PC (not that im aware of any way) But be careful on the Volts as that is the part that Can damage your CPU but if you stay below the maximum voltage you would be doing well to damage your chip it will just fall over.

1.52 is max voltage for your chip,so if you can keep the temps under control then notch it up a wee bit to see if you can get it stable.

The clock or the voltage? Anyway with the setup I have at the moment has been running for a few hours now and no problems. I haven't done any stress testing thought except hours of gameplay.

The voltage lol , glad u sorted it.a lot of people are breaking 5ghz with your chip, very impressive.Wish i had got one now :(

Well I dont think I have sorted out since I haven't done any major stress testing since last night's fiasco. I dont know if you could call playing crysis for 3 hours stressing. :p

my i5 2500k is running at 4.4ghz 1.3v temps 55-60C

cant seem to get it stable at 4.5ghz only tried voltages upto 1.32v will try higher tomorrow,

use prime95 blend test, it seems to be the one that pushes these chips the hardest,
