Overclocks not working anymore....

For the past 18 months or so I've been running my core2 at 3.2 without any issues.

I've changed 2 things with my system recently, an GFX card (Ati 4850 512) and a 1Tb external drive.

With a process of elimination it's the external drive that seems to causing the issue. Even thought the external drive is powered by it's own PSU when it's on and connected to the pc via usb, my clocks won't hold. Turn the drive of my clocks are fine.

I was prepared to up my 500w PSU if I was going to have issues with the new GFX card which i didn't though.

So why is the externally powered drive killing my overclocks????

Am I really going to need to upgrade my PSU due to the external drive?

So it's not even that the USB is drawing power.

Have you tried lowering the clock slightly? does it still happen? Are you over-volting?

In theory it should'nt be drawing any power but i think it is, to affect the clocks like it does.

I've lost the bit of paper that wrote my clocks on.....

Just doing from memory but they're fine with the drive off.

Any recomendation of what thecpu and memory volts should be?

Had the same issue with my old 939 board. Although imho thats because I was running 4 different speed rated and odd sized memory modules in it.

I just resorted to plugging the external backup drive into another computer, and networking the stuff across to it.
