overclocks on SD 3700?

Since the 939 3800 x2's aren't as cheap as I'd hoped, I am considering a SD 3700 to tide me over for a couple of months before buying a conroe.

So, what sort of overclocks are generally achieved on these with phase cooling?
Am I right in assuming the 3700 is the same chip as the fx-57 apart from speed and the unlocked multiplier?

I am currently running a 3500 winchester at 2.7, is it worth bothering?

Basically i have just bought a mach II and want a chip to play with. The 3500 I have appears to have been bascially maxed out when I had it on air so there's not much more I can do with that.

i currently have a 3700 that's doing 2.8ghz on 1.375v haven't tried pushing it further yet tho. i'd probably say mine will max out at 2.95ish on air maybe 3ghz if i'm lucky! on phase this will probably do 3.2ish i think!

if your getting 2.7 i would say no point in upgrading. most of the 3700's are no maxing out at 2.7/2.8 so i would suggest just sticking with what you have.

At the clock you've got atm its probably not worth it, but then again how many upgrades are actuall needed ;) My 3700 clocks to 2.85 on air with 1.56v but the newer ones seem to be getting there with less volts, so with phase you should be able to hit 3.0gig. Might also be worth spending an extra £15 and getting the 4000 sd. Same chip again but with a 12x multi instead of the 11x on the 3700 and under phase might go further.

my 3700sd only does 2.7 on a cold day with it at 1.5v??

yep mine too, needs a lot of volts to get it up there.

ive had to set mine bck to stock for the summer, its too hot.

mine wont get stable above 2.6 ghz, its a toledo dual core chip with one core disabled according to a program. It just won't overclock well and i've tried everything to try and rectify this.

Mine hits 2.75Ghz at stock volts and with stock cooling. Revision & stepping etc in screenshot:

If thats what it will do on stock volts and cooling why havn't you cranked that vcore up and pushed her some more :p ;)

Nice clock BTW :)

:D

I will at some point. It's getting to about 48C at full load in this heatwave. So I'll push her a bit further once the weather cools down a bit!

48'c isn't too bad considering the weather and the fact your using the stock cooler. Might be worth getting a better one though to push the cpu more. Mine idles at 30'c and maxes out at 43'c with 1.56v running through it whilst being air cooled by my G-power Pro on the lowest setting :)

if like your saying you want to get the 3700 to tide you over for a few months you may as well get the x2 3800 since it will tide you over for atleast a year. better investment in my eyes.

not much of an overclock if it can;t run 24/7 regardless of the weather.

my cpu has been stuck at 2.9ghz and even in this heat i have had no overheating problems. then again i did build this pc for maximum reliability and overclock it accordingly. ;)

2.7Ghz at 1.5V if you are unlucky (like me) and 2.9Ghz or 3Ghz if you are lucky.

But if you already have a CPU at 2.7Ghz the difference is very small and IMO isn't worth it.
