Overclocks wont stick?

So yeah i took everything back to stock (2.1 ghz)from 3.1 ghz to try to find the most stable prime95 settings but after doing so no overclock settings stay it just reverts back to default settings, never come across anything like this before so im a bit baffled. Any suggestions?

Specs:

Mobo: Asus P5NE-sli
CPU: e6400 conroe
ram: 2gb ddr2-667

so yeh any help would be appreciated.
 
I had this a while back.......when the overclock fails and reverts back to stock i had to set my overclock and up the voltage to my cpu a touch then save and restart, then when the overclock posted into windows exit to bios then set your voltage to what it normaly was .....hope you understand this but i was stumped at first and it used to happen 1 or 2 times every few months so i changed my mobo never happened since
 
Ok awesome it's fixed the problems! mind explaining a bit as to why it did what it did though? bit of extra know how wouldent go a miss
