Before i buy my build i just wanted to check to see peoples success on overcloking the i5 750 combinded with the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 mobo.

Is this a decent board to oc with, i would ideally liked to see 4.0ghz with my h50 cooler and patriot 1600 mhz ram.

If I were you I'd buy one of the P55A gigabyte boards, there was several reports of people frying their sockets and CPU's with the P55 boards, something to do with the Foxconn sockets they used on them.

The P55A's use Lotes sockets which don't suffer from this problem.

I have an 860 @ 4.1GHz on a UD5...has been a real solid board with me.

I think This is what is being referred to...not heard much about this for a while now...

The P55A is not supposed to o/c as well as the P55...

yea i heard about a socket burning issue however i was told its not a common problem now. UD4 it is then :).

Am i right in saying this board will also perform well with dual ati gfx cards at a later date.

The Gigabyte P55 UD4/UD5 supports both SLI and xFire, with both PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots @ x8, there will be a slight performance loss as compared to @ x16 but I doubt if you would really notice it...If you want xfire/SLI to run both PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ the full x16, then you would need to go the X58 road...

How can this be the case?

I fail to understand how P55A's don't o/c as well as the first P55's.

They use identical chipsets right, and I am assuming they have identical BIOS'es to, just like all Gigabyte boards.

And with the P55A's you have the added bonus of SATAIII and USB3.

This is what I have read from reviewers in the Bit-Tech forums...

I do urge both you and the op to check this out if you feel it may not be the case...

SATA6 is not going to give you any performance increase over SATA3, it will give a higher bust speed, but that is all.

As regards USB3, from all accounts the PCI-E lanes on P55A cannot deliver the full bandwidth of USB3 (although the X58 can) and not that many devices around at the moment that will make full use of it...I would think it will be towards the end of 2010 before USB3 starts to become more widespread...
