Overcurrent on USB

So I put together my new PC on Sunday and until today, everything worked great. Today though, I tried to turn it on and I got the overcurrent warning in BIOS and it shut down.

I disconnected everything before turning it on again and it worked until I plugged in the mouse and keyboard (in the motherboard ports), then I got the overcurrent warning again. Shut everything down again, plugged the stuff in the front 3.0 ports, keybord is dead, mouse works fine. Mouse also prompts the warning when it's in the back port.

Now my question is: can I just get a new keyboard and continue as normal with the front ports or is it a bigger issue with the new motherboard that will make it explode in my face?

Motherboard is a brand new MSI b250M bazooka.

Apologies for any formatting errors, I'm on mobile (kinda scared to turn the PC on).

Sounds like there's a short in the usb for the case, or you've seated the USB cable incorrectly - check the header pins.

Get a new (cheap) keyboard and use it in the mouse slot. Does this keyboard work here?

Rule out a wiring issue with the USB ports on the case and use a direct connection to the ports on the motherboard. If that clears up your problem, stop using the front ports on the case and disconnect the header.

EDIT: Just noticed you stated issues using a back port also. I'd be inclined to move the system out of the case and see if the problems still persist outside the case, if so, it's probably time to start looking for a new motherboard(and not risking any further USB devices). If problems vanish outside the case, there's likely a short being caused somewhere when inside the case, misplaced standoff, something behind the mobo, incorrectly installed backplate or connector header, etc..

Overcurrent warning on usb can also indicate not enough current which is the situation i had, so changed my usb jumper caps to add 5v and that warning never came back. Check your manual for your board and see what your jumper caps are set too and see if you need to change them.
