I've totally overdone it with my upper body work out, Arms, shoulders, neck, back are killing.

Its there anything I can do or eat do to help recover quicker ? and feel like I'm not a stiff zombie.

Cheers,

Massage, eat protein, warm bath/flannel.

Just guessing really, migth not work much at least you'll get to be comfy and eat tasty food :D

Pfft, aches and pains are what makes you a man.

Eat properly all day, good amount of protein every 2-3 hours, decent complex carb intake to keep you fueled, vitamins etc the usual drill.

Some VERY light stretching will help you here, just be careful I wouldn't really recommend stretching before before being warmed up.

For truth!!

You've gotta learn to love the DOMS! Your body will react by growing. Put simply, pain = growth!! :)

I hope this is a joke, even if it is it isn't funny. You can seriously injure yourself by over training.

I do understand the way it works, but in this situation it's quite clear that he knows he's over exerted himself.

Theres a difference between aching muscles and the sort of pain which would cause you long term injury. In fact training again whilst you have aching muscles helps them recover - rather than just lingering on for days.

Not a joke and the post even states put simply.........

DOMS, over training and injury are 3 distint things, not one and the same.

I wouldn't suggest for one second that someone train through any pain that might be associated with an injury but the pain the OP is taking about is DOMS (delay onset muscle soreness). You work hard, you get DOMS, you grow.

Depending on the gym, have they got steam/sauna, that always used to help my aches/pains, as did some light swimming (by that i mean just floating around in the shallow end of the pool moving arms/shoulders etc and generally watching the world and fit birds go by!).

Other than that, as suggested above, plenty of heat and massage to promote the circulation of fresh blood to the tissues.

I do understand the process, as I said in my post.

Pain = Growth implies the more pain you go through the more growth you get. That's very bad advice to give. I'm probably being pedantic ,I just don't like seeing potentially misinforming posts I guess.

If we're going to be pedantic then my post in no way implies that more pain = more growth that was your assumption! ;) ;)

He's not describing the pain of breaking a leg, pulling a muscle or tearing a tendon, he's describing the pain of DOMs, it's very different. To some people pain means you feel you've overdone it, to others it means 'good workout'.

On routines that most people here follow it would be very hard to 'overtrain' yourself, all you'll be doing is under-eating and not getting enough rest.

Still to do this day after doing a heavy leg workout I cannot walk properly the next day, or two.

MTA isn't giving bad advice.

Been taking loads of vitamin C D and mulit vits.

Trying to get lots of rest, and eating lots of protien.

I'll have to get in the bath tonight, although I hate baths as they make me sweat like a pig. Then a shower after.

Feel good though, but a little tired.
i've not trained my upper body in a while, as I've been doing loads of Cardio to try and get fitter and loose some weight.

I'm suprised how much muscle I have lost from not really doing an upper body workout for months. I'll have to spec a routine and post it here to see what everyone thinks.

I love feeling blasted after a workout, I don't get it as bad as I used to though :(

Change one or two exercises in your routine and you should get it back.

I find taking creatine (mono or CEE) reduces DOMS loads.

Spot on, variety is the key.

And to the OP, you've probably not trained to hard it's simply because you haven't trained for a while. It will happen to anyone.
