Overdraft on visa electron card possible?

Had visa electron since I was 16 (before, even, it is my first and only account), and I'm fully aware that it's a card typically issued to those who can't handle their money to save their lives - I've never had such a history of that though, I was given this type of card as my very first bank card and haven't really bothered to change it ever since. I never felt the need to, until maybe now, depending on if it's possible to ask the bank (Halifax) if an overdraft is possible.

Has anyone ever been allowed an overdraft on visa electrons or will I have to ask for a different account type/upgrade? How much overdraft do they normally give to students, etc?
 
IIRC its the card thats between the Cash Card account and full current account. Meaning you have the ability to use it as a Debit Card but dont have the cheque book or overdraft facility. Similar to the 'Solo' card.

I had one with Barclays years ago and when I finally got a full current account, I was issued with a 'Connect' Card.
 
Go into bank, open new account with overdraft, close electron account - they will transfer everything over for you, infact change bank and ull probs gett 100 quid bonus or the like.

Er, I have a solo/maestro and I certainly have a cheque book, and it's possible to go overdrawn on the card, even when you are under 18. I know it shouldn't be but a friend with the same card was going to withdraw some money with me and his account clearly showed -£7.45
 
The card doesn't make a difference as to whether your account can have an overdraft, it's the type of account that matters.
 
How long do you normally have to pay back such an overdraft?

In fact, can anyone provide a link that helps to explain how overdrafts work?

Times must have changed.

I'm going back 8 years at least and my account had no overdraft facility or cheque book. I had to apply for a current account for those. Well, I didnt actually apply. I had 20k paid in and all of a sudden I had a Switch Card, a current account and a 1k overdraft limit within 10 days. I never queried it and assumed it was something to do with the amount of money in the account.

I have 1k on my abbey student account.

Took them forever, and three attempts, to get me a debit card.

Still use both, whichever comes to hand first really.
