:) Hi all, ive just got my new phenom II 940 black edtition cpu, i nstalled amd overdrive version 1.15.00 again, i set the multiplier for all 4 cores to x18, i have had no crashes etc, sitting at 3.6ghz. Anyway 4 questions
1) how do i get this overclock to stay saved, if i turn my pc off/on im back to stock volts gain
2) i also tried the auto overclock, but when i press on the start button to start that, amd overdrive shuts down again and nothing
3) when i press the run button for stress test in the amd overdrive, it shuts down and nothing happens
4) installed prime95 instead, accessed the blend torture test and pressed start, this shut down aswell and nothing happened

I have vist premium 64bit, i have had a few problems with this in the past and recently regarding interfearing and shuting down programs etc, could this be partly to blame?, thx all, kind regards wayne:).

To get your overclock to "stick" have you tried changing settings in the BIOS rather than using software? The general thought for overclocking is that it's a better method. Personal choice of course but I don't see the point in running an app to do something that is just as easy to do in the BIOS.

AMD OverDrive is fine for overclocking and safe and much easyer, to save the settings, click on preference, choose the settings tab, then tick the box called "apply my last settings when system boots"

Hi all, i set my multiplier to 18x which takes it to just over 3.6ghz, movies crash constantly now, and pc sometimes restarts itself, do i have to up one of the voltages, im not sure which one to up, as i said i cant even run any sort of stress test the ones i mentioned crash when started.

your starting to high. start at 16.5x or 17x then stress test it then work up slowly until it crashs then you'll know thats your limit on stock volts. then the next thing to do is to bump up the vcore (cpu vid) abit then do the same work up slowly and do stress tests. just remember to keep checking the temps

amd site says 1.5v max but up to u if u wanna go over that.

take it up by 0.025v each time...

i would go to 1.40v first then see what stable clock u can get on that. just keep your eye on the temps.

does your stress testing crash at stock?

also u meant wanna try setting your ram mode on Unganged if it's not on that already.

K m8 ill try thoses things, but what do you mean about my ram though, sorry i dont know a lot about OC and things attached to it. I havent tried the stress test at stock yet, ill try overnight and let you know how i get on:]. If i also new how to OC via my bios, i would just use that, is it quite simple?.

Tried the stress amd stress test on stock and it crashed, must be vista.
maybe not vista mate. my first 940 crash at stock and i found out it was a faulty cpu so i rma'd it back to amd and got a replacemeant which works fine.

i would say run memtest to test your ram first..

your ram mode is in the bios.

K m8 np, i put the cpu vid up to just 1.4, set the multiplier to 18x, running at 3.6ghz, no crashes yet, cpu temperature sitting at 41c just now browsing the internet etc, only tested it under load playing crossfire multiplayer game, temperature coming out at 47/48c, is that ok m8?.
