Hi all,
I am fairly wet behind the ears when it comes to Overclocking.
I have recently been trying to OC my GPU HD5870 to achieve a couple more FPS in certain games so I can enjoy the higher detail.
I am using the basic method of AMD Overdrive to adjust the GPU (default 700Mhz) and memory clock (default 1000Mhz) settings.
I don't particularly struggle with heat, I have the G73-jh laptop which, although cooler with the 460m isn't too bad with the HD5870.
Thing is, whenever i make even the slighest gain in clock speeds, the system tests the custom clocks fine but whenever I start a game, the graphics driver will always play for 30 secs or so and then crash, restart, crash, restart etc.
Am I missing something obvious or is it not realistic to make even the slightest improvement whilst maintaining stability.
Appreciate any help.
Cheers
