Hi Guys,
I recently moved house and had the self-built PC transported in a removal box.
The power supply was on its last legs and finally gave up after three starts of the system so I replaced the Antec True 380W one with a no name 400W power supply.
That new power supply doesn't has the connections for the CPU fan regulator so is now run faster than before, I think, I've no way of testing that.
I noticed that the system ran a lot hotter under load, quickly ramping up to 80ºC tripping the boards alarms. I noticed that the heat sink wasn't on properly, probably due to the transport. It has some clip on screws which I put in which improved things a bit but the system is still heating up a lot faster than it should.
I checked in the BIOS and it's actually not overclockled as it was before so it's actually running slower and should be cooler which is not the case.
After all this, here are finally my questions.
Could it be that the thermal grease has been damaged and do I need to replace it?
Do I need to worry about the voltage settings in the BIOS after changing the power supply, i.e. could that be the reason? Voltage Control is set to Default at the moment, it looks as if the system is slightly overclocked from 2400 to 2448Mhz.
Thanks for your help in advance!
